My brother lives in Nashville and his wife's family in Kentucky. I have driven through many times, you have a gorgeous state. We detoured on the Blue Grass Parkway last trip. It was a gorgeous drive, I find that part of the country really. I can only imagine how nice some of the riding must be.

I want to come bike the Bourbon trail with the family, maybe once my son gets older he can pull me in a trailer!

This morning was nice, it is supposed to rain heavy this afternoon so I am looking forward to it. I just worry if it will be really windy, but I will be okay I remembered my shoe covers.

Uneventful and cloudy so nothing to great to report on views.

I had a guy almost get rear ended stopping on a main road to let me cross yesterday. Some people need to be a bit more aware of their safety, I was waiting for a break in traffic and I do not want you to put your safety in jeopardy.

Boy, what a change a week or so makes.

Last week we had daytime temps of in or around 37*C in the shade. This meant it was mid to high 20's at 6:30 AM when I leave for work. It was very warm, A week later we are looking at daytime highs of around 27 or 28* C and it is about 17*C when I leave for work. You can feel that bit of chill in the air, I actually had to catch myself when I was thinking it felt like fall....

It's still July.

Inflated the tires up to 100psi this morning instead of the usual 85. It may have been an undetectable tailwind, but I felt a lot faster. I had been trying to follow the 15% drop chart, but this makes me doubt it.

It's hot and humid today so I'm sure I'll be drenched in sweat when I get home.

It's funny to see how many people at work looking at me amazed with "you rode in today?!?"

There were thunderstorms last night, the ground was a bit wet in places, but the temps were cooler and perfect for riding. Why wouldn't I ride?

It took them a while to adjust to the idea of me riding (almost) every day as it was....

Yesterday's commute was fairly uneventful. No wind in the morning and west wind while going north and east in the afternoon meant I lost no time due to wind. Managed 14.1 average over 15.7 miles going home which is fast for me.

Then this morning makes the first time to commute 2 days in a row. I took the company car home to change the oil in it, so will ride home tomorrow. Glad I did because we had massive storms and flash flooding that I would have been caught in had I left the office to ride home at the usual 4:30-ish.

Road bike also passed 4K miles yesterday which is amazing. I still haven't broken 900 miles on my KHS since I started keeping track over 2 years ago.

A little muggy this morning but I did have a family of deer in the middle of the road in front of me. They sure are fun to watch.

I got on the bike this am and realized I had a flat tire. I tried changing it myself and it did not go well as there were time constraints and issues such as I have never changed a flat tire by myself. I wanted to do change it so I can do it next time, but I also had to get to work. So I took the car today with the bike and tire. I am going to talk to a guy here at work who rides a lot and fixes his own bikes. I am hoping he will work with me while I change the tire and makes sure I am doing it right.

I occasionally see other cyclists on my commute, but rarely going the same direction, and can't remember the last time I was passed. Today 2 roadies caught up to me and passed me at the top of a hill just before a stop sign. They looked fast. I said to the second one, "I might have to draft you guys."

He said, "Yeah," in a tone that I felt he was implying, "That would be good for you, but I doubt you will keep up."

I had to work a little to stay with them and worked up a bit of a sweat. But the next 2.5 miles they (we) rode at 25mph, much faster than my normal 18-20mph for that section. They were glancing back to see if I was still there a couple of times. At the next stop sign they were going a different direction. I said, "Thanks guys, have a good one." One replied, "You too," and that was it.

Nice quick 17mph jaunt to the office today. 72 degrees, but humidity was crazy high. Had to back way off on the MUP section, as the water and leaves made for iffy traction even at speeds under 15mph. Gorgeous though. Saw a deer with three younguns grazing by the MUP, and got buzzed by a blue herron that was taking off in search of a better breakfast I suppose, doesn't matter, it was gorgeous, even if his wing only missed me by a few inches.

Beautiful ride in today. There was enough moisture in the air I never once felt the need to take a drink (if that makes sense). Got to the office in near record time and beat the rain by a half hour. Also the climbs are getting steadily easier with each commute. Nice.

Nice ride this morning, a lot cooler than the previous days at 17° celcius with a mild headwind. Very sunny.

My flying arch-enemy was still on the Watch this morning and came down close on me but he turned out the be a back stabbing coward: I just have to look at it and he back off.

No ride today ... rode the first three days this week and wanted to give my legs a day off. My SO was surprised to see me lounging in bed instead of pedaling. Haven't driven since Sunday ... was kind of weird.

Largely uneventful ride last night. Did get behind a young couple on MTBs who were apparently in love and out for a leisurely ride, riding two up, unaware of everything around them. I slowed as I approached, and was riding the roadie, so I coasted in the hopes that my loud freewheel would wake them. It didn't, at first. Finally loverboy heard it, and mumbled something, to which the girl responded (who was on his left) by drifting further left, allowing me to pass in the middle. :crash:

Will likely ride tomorrow. Got my pedal rebuild kit, so if I get that done tonight I'll be back on the CX/commuter. But I've really been loving the roadie

I crossed paths with a couple of snakes yesterday, the first a big black/grey northern watersnake (harmless). The second was a juvenile with beautiful brown diamond patterns. He'd drawn a crowd, who were keeping a respectful distance but he looked agitated about the whole scene. I'm sure, just another water snake.

I am glad you have placed yourself as the alpha specie in this situation. A good look can set most things right.

I had a lot of people on the road this morning, which was weird considering it was a rather wet day. I think in my first 2 km I counted 8-10 people and another 10 +/-2 for the remaining 5 km. I chatted with a woman (on her bike) about some road/bike lane work the city was doing on the stretch she was on. She agreed with me independently and I said she should also call the city. I gave her the number and she said she would. I hope more people do since bike lane building does not always make things better on certain stretches.

It was a nice leisurely ride this morning otherwise. The clouds were just starting to clear over the Vancouver Island mountains and were about to offer up a nice view in a little while.

There were also tons of pedestrians. I was approaching a woman on the pedestrian cycle bridge and I just rang the crap out of my bell from a ways back since I was unsure of earphone situation with an umbrella and train going overhead. She turned and said thanks with a nice smile, I just was worried I was going scare the crap out of her. Another lady was on her phone with a coffee and I couldn't ring my bell on the downhill, so I just let my dump truck brake squeal alert her. Which ended with her drifting all the way from the left to the right without looking; I was going nice and slow on the right so it was a non-indecent.

After the weather yesterday, and hearing rain falling this morning when I got up, I figured I would drive to work.

Good Lord. Is it like that every day? Insanity. That was a solid reminder of why I rarely drive to work.

The ride this morning was cool but humid. I did make good time and the deer were in the field beside me this morning. Great morning for a ride

The flat is fixed and I have purchased a new spare tube. I was able to commute in this morning and extend the ride by leaving early for work. The temp was 56f degrees when I left the house with mostly clear skies.

Back in action after a three-day work training. Definitley cooler out. And a little bit darker each morning!

The summer heat calmed down a bit this morning making for a great 55 F ride in, which I consider to be Goldilocks. Today is also a milestone for me, seeing that as of today, I have gone on 100 rides (mostly 19 mile work commutes) in the last 12 months, about 1,800 miles total. And I actually have a 4 weeks left, so my new goal is to ride 2,000 miles in a year. 10 rides in a month should be easy!

Legs, knees, and butt are all doing well after two and a half weeks of commuting. Five years after starting my current job, I decided it was time to get back to bike commuting. The distance is only 6~7 miles oneway and there are no cliffs so the SA 3 speed has been handling it nicely. Every thing felt particularly good this morning and I noticed that my shifting rate has been decreasing. If everything still feels this good next week, I may dust off the fixed gear.

Beautiful morning and my fastest commute in a long time, with cooler temps and lower humidity for a change. A strong cold front moved through our area yesterday, bringing tremendous thunderstorms and torrential rain. I drove because forecasters were predicting the storms would hit in mid-afternoon to commute time, but they didn't actually hit until nearly 7 pm. So I could have ridden after all, but it wasn't worth the risk. Humidity levels have been crazy high lately with temps in the 90s, so I knew we would get some monster storms when the front finally arrived.

We have had very "active" weather all summer, and it has been throwing a wrench in my commuting routine. Lots of very strong thunderstorms popping up on many afternoons, and they have been very unpredictable in location, timing and severity. All of the rain has my yard looking great though.

Partly sunny, 63 degrees, a little wind from the west. Woke up to the alarm and checked my weather app. It now has a "Rain will start in XX minutes" function to it, and it said it would begin in 40 minutes. Looked at the radar and spotty showers. Toyed with the idea of not riding, but knew I would miss out on the chance to ride four days this week, so I got up and got going.

Halfway to work, felt about three rain drops, but that was it. :) This afternoon might be a different story though.

Back on the CX/commuter this morning. I'd rebuilt my eggbeaters with the rebuild kit because I kept hearing a creaking noise, would get worse under pressure. Well, the creaking noise remains. Bike will be going to the shop next week. It's only a year old, so I'm hoping whatever it is is still covered. We'll see.

[MENTION=86492]tarwheel[/MENTION] we got the rain before you yesterday but I drove as well thinking that it was going to be a bad day for riding. Storms did not come until later as well. My son called them "summer" storms instead of Thunderstorms yesterday. It was pretty funny.

Second riding day this week. Temps were around 68F and humidity was much less. I averaged 16.9 mph this morning. I am not sure why I keep trying to go faster and faster. My legs get sore when I do.

first ride with the new saddle. I was kinda concerned when I rode around the neighborhood after installing Wednesday. It felt harsh and not too comfortable without bike shorts. I was not sure I was going to like it, but with bibshorts it felt good. It is very grippy and I found that I had to pick myself up to reposition instead of just sliding a little bit. It is lighter than my old saddle and even my road bikes saddle.
