61 degrees ... dry when I rolled out of the driveway, started misting less than a mile in. I stopped and put on my rain jacket because I was actually a little chilly due to a headwind (around 17mph, gusts up to 25 according to the weather).

By the time I got downtown the mist was worse. Sat up at the art museum, wiped off my glasses and continued on.

About four miles from work the mist became a heavy drizzle. Glasses were covered in rain drops, water dripping off the brim of my helmet, my rain jacket was completely wet.

The rain wasn't bad, the headwind kind of sucked though.

85°F 50% humidity this morning. Which for me is very muggy!

Haven't posted for awhile, day after day of good weather as if we got stuck in June. Today is another fine day, with a 15mph tailwind to help. I actually broke out a windbreaker.

Heavy rain forecast for today, and it was lightly raining when I got out of the shower, so I drove in. Of course now it hasn't rained for 2 hours. :(

I had a soft tire, slow leak so I swapped tubes before leaving work. When I got home and took it out to patch it, I couldn't find the leak! Aired up like a balloon and fully submerged, still no leak. I checked the inside of the tire, it's clean. I know there's a leak because I aired up two days ago, and it was soft too soon then. I hate it when that happens. Maybe the stem. I'll probably wind up throwing out the tube because I don't want to deal with it.

I had a nice ride this morning, overcast and threatening rain.

I rode the second half of my commute with another fellow, chatted and deviated routes a bit for a compromise between our two.

This morning I did have a conversation with a woman who was principled but not too bright and a cyclist. She turned right, right in front (I am not certain she stopped at the stop sign) of me as I was heading downhill; mind you I was slowing for a rail road crossing and stop sign but I still had to brake hard. She also took the turn very leisurely and I was not even sure she was turning (most people blow the stop sign and go straight few turn).

So I told her she cut me off. Her theorem was that she signaled her right turn so it was okay; and people regularly run that stop sign therefore I need to be more considerate. She of course said this in more words; to which I replied with the rational you had a stop sign, I was going straight and you cut me off. She essentially told me even if I had the right of way I should stop for her.

So I shook my head glanced over my shoulder to ensure no cars in the queue (but made eye contact with the fellow I rode the rest of the way with) and at the green light I shouted “Passing on your left” and blew up the hill in a PR time. I thought of asking if that was considerate enough as I passed but would not have further advanced the situation.

The fellow then caught up with me at the uncontrolled intersection and asked if I had an engine. After that it was a nice leisurely ride while chatting.

Pretty uneventful commute in this morning. I did add a couple of extra miles for the fun of it.

One house caught my eye on the way in. It had 20 or so pink flamingos newly added to the front yard along with a big sign that read, "HAPPY BIRD DAY!"

I'm kind of annoyed. Weather forecast was 40-60% chance of rain/t-storms all day, so I drove in.

It's gorgeous out.

Heavy rains today=car commute

The sun is out! We have had overcast skies for the past 5 or so days. Although it kept the daily highs down, I believe that made it warmer and more humid each morning. Today was about 68F when I left.

I was passed this morning. And by a female. She said, "Good morning," as she passed me. I stayed with her for just a bit as we went up an incline and she slowed down a little. But then a longer downhill started and she kicked it up a couple of gears and took off. She was in time trial position and full roadie gear. I was not so much. I probably could have gotten more aero and stayed with her, but I didn't feel like pushing it and didn't want her to think I was stalking or something.

Rainy day, nice ride anyway, I like riding in the rain. It's tonight Wind forecast that I don't like : 25-35 kms headwin:notamused:

Rained last night. So I checked the street before heading out. Fairly dry. Half way to work it started sprinkling. Just enuff to get me wet.

I finally made it under the parking lot security gate arm without brushing a shoulder blade or hip. I've been trying for weeks, laying down on the top tube and coasting in, I even dropped my stem the last 2mm but always I nicked something on the way by. The key is to be completely relaxed. Small victory I know, but I'll take it.

First time commuting in a couple of years. The major thing that changed for me was that a Metro extension recently opened up, and by riding one stop I can cut my commute from 19 miles to about 11 miles.

The only downside is that I have to be out of the system by 7AM, but I am an early bird and I was off the train by 6:20AM. And since I was riding the opposite direction of most commuters, I literally had the railcar all to myself. For the return trip the bike blackout is from 4-7, so I will probably shoot for getting to the station right at 7PM.

This morning it was darker than I had expected - the sun was up, but there were clouds on the horizon. I hadn't anticipated that - my headlight batteries weren't fully charged, and they pooped out partway through.

Funny ... I walked into the mailroom after work, put my thumb on the rear tire like I always do just to check, and yup, it was soft but not totally flat. I ran my thumb lightly along the entire tire, never saw anything that indicated a puncture. Put my pump on it, aired it up, seemed to be holding air and then I took the pump off and I hear it losing air. So I decide to go downstairs and change at the gym first, then come up and deal with it.

Came back up, took the wheel off, aired it again, same thing. So I pulled the tube, and did it again, same result, particularly when I wiggled the tube valve.

Check my backpack and that's when I realize I don't have a tube for my roadie (which I've been riding as of late). I run 23s on it. On the commuter, it's 35s so I've got a 35/38 tube and it already has one patch in it.

TL/DR, you can use a 35/38 tube in a 23 tire, if you air it up lower than normal. I sort of babied it home, but it got me there just fine.

Fairly cool.. 58 degrees and that first draft up the shorts is quite a eye opener! Typically warm up on the last 1/2 of the commute as it's up hill. Alot of strangeness this morning. Seen a bicycle rider literally jump off the bike and give a old long hair fat guy a hug.. not sure on the gender of the bike rider and I didn't look as I going past. At 0500 in the morning that's just weird! Just put my head down and pedaled faster! 3 other bike riders and normally only see 1. This morning commute just had a weird feeling to it.

Finally willing to bike commute after several days of stormy weather. I actually could have made it work and back the past two days without getting caught in storms but it wasn't worth the risk. We have had a rainier than usual summer with many violent storms and torrential rain, flooded streets, high winds and lightning. Yesterday was the perfect setup for a similar event with very high humidity and a strong cold front approaching from the NW. The timing was uncertain but I opted to drive since the storms typically blow up right around the time of my afternoon commute. As it turned out, the weather was sunny when I drove home yesterday, but it quickly clouded up with a line of severe thunderstorms that hit about 30 minutes after the time I usually get home. It must of have rained 3" with high winds blowing the showers sideways and trees bowing over. Anyway, I missed a commute but avoided being stressed out all day worrying about getting caught in another severe storm, which has happened a few times already this year.

Love it. It is the small things that can make your day, or at least make your commute.

It was a nice rainy commute, not downpour but wet.

I took the boy out for a bike ride after we got home. Three days without training wheels and he is really stable, stopping is okay, speed control on down grades needs work and so do starts. But he is not even four and pedaling on his own!

He saw a trail gator on the way to daycare yesterday and he said we need to get a tube to connect our bikes together; he knows it is too far to ride himself to daycare.

Probably the warmest morning commute of the year at 20C/68F. Breezy, but in the right direction for the ride in. The ride home will be hot (for Edmonton).

So after the scary forecast, all we got was a short downpour around 11AM. Next time I'm just going to ride.

Extremely humid coming in this morning, but the cold front should move through sometime today and make things very nice.

Rode the CX bike today My wife is going to drop off my son with his bike at 5 and we'll ride across the river to the local CX "pickups" (informal pre-season race).

Had deer in the field yesterday afternoon. This morning there was a dead one on the road. My commutes were both very fast though

Also, I found a clamp.

A cool 59F when I started out this morning. That 's the coldest it has been since winter. I was loving it.

And last night, though the temp was in the 80s, the humidity was way down. I was barely sweaty when I got home. The wife and I took a walk after dinner and were just loving the conditions. If only August was always like this.
