Gorgeous weather this morning, with coolest morning temps in months (upper 50s). I was running late so I kicked up the pace and got just as sweaty as if the temperature was in the 70s. Felt good to ride fast though. Our hot water heater is not working at the office again, so I've been treated to cold showers the past couple of days. It's painful but a good way to cool down after a fast ride. Apparently we won't have hot water for a few weeks.

Sunny and high 50s here too ... downright chilly for August and I wore a long-sleeve base layer under my t-shirt. Uneventful commute, lots of runners out today. I was back on the CX/commute bike and wow, the difference between 35c tires and 23C is insane. I felt like I was pedaling through maple syrup at times.

Will get a new tube for the roadie tomorrow, and then swap out the commute tires for the CX tires and commute on the roadie until winter

Back after two days out of town. Still cool here too, low 60's but I had a mid morning appointment that I rode too. It was almost 11a when I headed for the office and perfect weather - upper 60's, sunny, little to no wind. Seriously considered just riding on past the office!

Nice ride this morning. It was cool and a bit of light fog. I just puttered along since I was pumped after a few days back following a week off.

I went to look at a 1999 Rocky Mountain Turbo with Easton Ultralite tubes and CF fork and full Ultegra. It was the right size and the right price. So I will soon have a race bike (I just need to pick it up and pay for it tomorrow). It is so light and twitchy. It is almost the perfect set up for me. I just need to slide the seat forward and nose it down, loosen the spd release point on the right pedal and adjust the bars a bit more. It only need a computer and water bottle cages. There was minimal ware: cable housing rub on the head tube; new cassette, rings and chain; a few small paint dings. It also meets my cost benefit criteria.

I had new pedals for the commute, after some reasonably priced lightweight chromoly platforms showed up unexpectedly yesterday. I'd been annoyed with my clips and straps and was what-if shopping on Amazon, had decided to wait but I left them in the cart along with some mini-clips. My wife wanted to buy something, saw them there and just left them in for the order! I may be onto something here ... not that I'd abuse this trick ...

Put my road tires back on my commuter (cyclocross) bike & lubed the chain last night. I had used the cx tires for riding the GAP last thursday through Sunday. The bike did really well but it sure was fun to feel the smooth road and smooth tires today.

This mornings commute was great. The temperature was around 60 and my legs felt great. This afternoon however was not good. My chain fell off three times. I am taking it to the shop for a tune up tomorrow.

Had to check the calendar when I got to work this morning to make sure we were really in August and not October. The temp was in the upper 40s this morning, I warmed up quite fast on the bike though, I had one of my regular customers ask if I rode my bike in this morning "in the cold" and she went on to say how she turned her heater on for the first time since March. I can't believe how many north-easterners can't handle a little chilly weather. My afternoon commute was pretty good, I was watching some storm clouds hover over me a couple times but luckily I made it home before it started to rain.

I managed to have a zero touch commute today - did not have to put a foot down once in 10 miles.

Another cool morning: 62F. Very enjoyable. But I'm glad it's Friday.

Ditto, beautiful Fall ride this morning and oddly it was warmer here than down south with a balmy 51F. It even smelled like Fall. I'm gonna stop whining about the cold mornings and lamenting no summer - I ride regardless so what does it matter?!

60 degrees and little more humid this morning. I wore arm and leg warmers and started off feeling like they were stupid but then when i hit the big down hill .8 miles into my ride(reaching 30mph) i was thankful for the arm/ knee warmers and vest. Ended up taking off the arm warmers and vest mid ride. It almost felt like a fall ride. I feel like they are just around the corner.

tried to ride slower but still avg almost 16 miles an hour. really trying to go a little slower so legs dont ache through out the day.

that is impressive. I am not sure if I would ever be able to do that with all the traffic stops along my route.

Awesome. It was quite, cool, damp, smelled nice and it is Friday! My son and I had a nice ride to daycare after which I just cruised down the hill.

I got a little motivation to go fast up a hill since I saw someone way ahead I wanted to catch. I caught up with the woman who cut me off and said I was inconsiderate Wednesday. So I took the opportunity to pass her with a wide berth many bell rings while loudly calling out, "Considerate cyclist passing on your left." It was a kind of jerk thing to do, but it made me smile. The only thing I really did different was an extra bell ring and the use of considerate cyclist.

The rest of the commute was nice. I took the main arterial route to the bridge today; I hit 67 km/h or so on the downhill approach. Traffic was fairly light so I was able to carry a lot of the speed up the bridge deck also.

Did it include needing to stop at a pedestrian controlled light and hold yourself up on the button? A fair amount of track standing. Or just no stopping?

This morning before work (from home) I did my usual 18km loop, then late morning I met a buddy for lunch and did the exact same loop again, but with a slight detour to the lunch spot. So I did pretty good for miles today. Morning ride temp was about 15C/59F (really [MENTION=134924]RidingMatthew[/MENTION]? Arm and leg warmers at 60F? :) ) and the noon ride temp was around 27C/80F.

This city is trying to be bike-friendly, and has lots of trails and some well-intentioned but poorly implemented bike lanes, but try finding a bike rack anywhere!

[MENTION=188444]groovestew[/MENTION] i know wimpy.... right. I road a couple times two weeks ago in mid 50F and I felt like my knees hurt without knee warmers. I took the arm and vest off before I made it halfway.

I think since I lost 40lbs I am now cold a lot sooner than before... i guess it is the loss of insulation. :)

I recorded this last year, and my route is the same now minus the hairy part at the beginning (the new office is basically at Westminster and 6 Road, and it's smooth sailing most days)...

I broke out my arm warmers Thursday morning. In August. In the South. This really has been a crazy year for weather.

Seems like there's been more traffic than usual on the 2-lane roads I ride on, especially afternoons. I've been having to use "control and release" techniques much more often than usual.

The temp was 56f degrees when I left the house this am and mostly clear skies. The ride in was very nice!

Back in action after a week of training and offsites. 72F 22F Felt great to be riding again.

Back to warmer temps today, but not so bad for the morning ride. We may hit 90+ temps all this week - first time this month. I left a little later than I like to today, plus I had to drop a movie off at the RedBox. Still got to work on time, but couldn't add any extra miles.

One short stretch of road is getting worked on. I had been avoiding it, and now I'm glad I have been. It was fine gravel for most of the way. I'll continue avoiding it until I can confirm the work is done.

No ride today ... had my kids this weekend and Sunday morning came around and they all asked if they could stay an extra day (sure makes me feel awesome when they ask that!). After asking their mom it was all good, but I have to take my oldest to the orthodontist at 5, so no time to ride unfortunately. I did fix the tube in my roadie this weekend and I swapped out the commuter tires for my CX tires on the CX bike.

Heard a crazy story on Friday night, on the news. The second half of my "to work" commute is on a MUP, a fairly busy MUP around here, called the Oak Leaf Trail. Was putting my kids to bed Friday night and when I got upstairs the GF asks what trail I ride to work? Here's the crazy part ... I'm pretty sure I saw those four kids. Not far from where I first got on the trail I see three of them standing near a bridge, and the fourth (who looked to be older) coming up from under the bridge. I didn't think too much of it, but at the same time, anytime someone is just "loitering" on the trail with no purpose, it raises my radar a little. This path sees a lot of traffic, walkers, runners, cyclists, etc ... so to me, seeing someone just "hanging out" by the side of the trail makes me wonder. I didn't think too much of it though, because I had just dealt with a flat tire so my mind was somewhat preoccupied.

Got my attention though, made me think about what I would do if it happened to me. My backpack has a u-lock in it, and it's unsecured, but if they rushed me or something, I don't think I'd have enough time to pull it out and start swinging it. Dunno ... not that I'd stop commuting, and really stuff like this is pretty rare, but it does make me think.

Unusual cold northern Wind this morning and for the whole week according to the weather forecast. Very unusual for august. On the plus side I should have a nice tailwind on the way back home.
