I was actually able to commute four days last week, they were just strung out. This morning was a good ride in but my headlight started dying. Also I was riding along at about 18 mph and a cyclist past me like I was sitting still. Either he's a strong rider or he just wanted to prove he could pass me. He turned off and I did not see him again. Very nice guy though he did speak and say good morning I hope your morning is well, you are carrying a load on your back.

Cool morning today. Very nice. Fixed the flat yesterday, did a little clean-up and chain lubing. Quiet and smooth ride in. School started today. I saw lots of kiddos waiting for their buses. I did notice a bit more traffic, but nothing too crazy.

Incredible weather this morning, just about what I would call ideal. Temps in the low 60s, low humidity and nice tailwind. Doesn't get much nicer than that. The weather is supposed to be nice here until late in the week, when it is supposed to turn hot and humid again. I'm not complaining though because at least we're getting a break from the heat and humidity for a few days. Pretty soon it will be fall and much cooler and darker.

Awesome. Most of the way was at a good clip but cool enough for no sweat but at the end: nice road, big gap in traffic, warmed up and fresh, who can resist kicking it up a notch? So I arrive soaked in perspiration after all (we do have showers thank goodness)

Warm, muggy and ready to rain. Left at 6 am and beat the rain. It was pouring by 7:30 am. But it still felt like I was caught in the rain - everything was drenched from sweating so much. Still was a good ride and I'm looking forward to the ride home too!

I was about to write the same thing. Nice ride.

Beautiful day for a commute...temp wise anyway. Which is good 'cause I forgot to bring my towel and washcloth back with me, so no shower for me. However, traffic was miserable! Ever since school started back up I haven't found the magic time to leave yet (other than way earlier than I am willing to wake up).

arsprod 08-25-14 08:35 AM

Agreed, beautiful morning ride though very muggy. I buddy who commutes sporadically pulled up and told me I'd inspired him to ride every day so he didn't renew his parking pass at work. Good way to force oneself to ride!

+1! There are days when I absolutely want to drive, just to get to work faster and to have a chance to be lazy, but damned if I don't have a better day when I get to work by bikecycle

60 degrees this morning! a little humid or it was just too cool and the water started condensing on my glasses as I rode.

School is back in session and I was behind a school bus that stopped. a. lot. until i eventually turned off the rode and went a different way in.

It was a nice ride this morning. The weather was also great. What I wonder in my morning prep time it seems there is a time vacuum between 7:20 and 7:40. No matter how ready I am something always slows me down and I get our the door twenty minutes late.

It was a nice commute with the little man after a nice fun weekend.

I was about to break another PR on the bridge I like to push it across, but I ended up with a third best. I had to slow and pass a cyclist. I also did something I have not done before, I told him he should not be on the road. Which in all honesty we are legally not allowed on the bridge deck and are relegated to the sidewalk. But I think the road is fine, if you are capable since there is only a 3 foot shoulder filled with debris. He was slow and a bit meandering in the small area. I had to slow and wait for a chance to pass him. I doubt he understood me or even heard me, but he worried me.

I know it is hypocritical of me to tell him to not be on the road; I know it is not well signed; I take the bridge deck. I use the sidewalk when I am tired or slow of if I get a bad traffic vibe. But if I take the bridge deck I tend to average 35-40 km/h (40 this morning). This morning I actually took the same time crossing as a car I started next to at a stop light.

Earlier in the commute with my son I had an unexpected thing happen. I got air with the rear. Going uphill.

Nice ride in this morning - though I started a little late. Good thing I can take the short route.

Not looking forward to the ride home - supposed to be a high of about 100*, god only knows what the head index will put it at.

I'm working from home today, but I rode to my doctor appointment, does that count? Stiff headwind for the ride there, enjoyed the tailwind on the way back.

Today's commute may have been the longest 5 miles I've ever rode. I felt slow & weak the entire ride in. It didn't help that I was up all night with a sick kid. To add some salt to that wound, regardless of how much I scrubbed in the shower and how much cologne I put on this morning I couldn't get rid of the cherry smell from the children's Tylenol bath my daughter gave me last night.

Baked some bread and some orange-cranberry muffins before turning the reigns over to my friend/business partner and heading home. When I got home I ended up crashing on the couch for the next 6 hours.

68F/20 C in Washington, DC a mirror of yesterday. Almost pitch black when I roll out of my building around 06:00.

1st commute to work ever. Awesome at 02:00 A.M. on the bike paths and through the UofM. 56 deg or so, 14.9 miles, 59 minutes. This is the 1/2 commute; I drove to a Park and Ride so that I get used to this part of the route and get adjusted to riding every day. I am just testing out the idea of riding to work just to get the miles in. If this works out for me I'll add another 10 miles, or just go the whole 30 mile commute in a couple weeks.

carbon copy of yesterday beautiful ride in but sad news when I got to work..... A coworker was murdered by her boyfriend. It is a sad day.

What terrible news for you! Very sorry to hear that!

Nice ride this morning ... 72, sunny, a little muggy but not unbearable.

Been somewhat plagued with flats the past two weeks, found out this last flat was because the patch I put on the tube came off. I'm thinking the patches may have been older than I first thought. I put in a new tube last night and set the other aside to patch. Think it's also almost time for new tires

Welcome to the addiction! 70F and really humid, kinda yucky - probably because my legs felt like tree stumps this morning

scottsmith 08-26-14 07:14 AM

Had a beautiful ride on my fat bike but noticed a clicking/grinding from the bottom bracket area. Not a good sign on a month old bike with less than 400km on it (maybe I'm getting just what I paid for but time will tell). Will have to look around for the receipt & get that fixed ASAP!

That is extremely sad.

A pretty good commute for me this morning. Nice and cool out. And last week's altercation has a follow up.

tarwheel 08-26-14 07:44 AM

Rode my touring bike to work this morning and made great time despite the additional weight, thanks to the cool relatively dry weather. Students returned to school this week and traffic is suddenly much worse. I had gotten in the habit of leaving later in the mornings over the summer but need to start leaving about 30 minutes earlier to avoid the heavy traffic and school buses.

My red-light curse continues, and I seem to get caught by every traffic signal lately. I need to find some way to get my traffic signal mojo back. Any suggestions? I would be happy to green lights just half the time. In addition, all of the traffic lights downtown have gotten out of sync lately. They used to be somewhat synchronized so you could ride down certain streets and get green lights all the way. Now they are all messed up. Must have happened in one of the numerous thunderstorms we've had lately.

I have a feeling leaving earlier will fix your red-light curse. Irregular traffic is probably wreaking havoc on your and the signals' timing.
