Well I just tried my Smartwool socks with neoprene socks over that, inside my SPD bike shoes. It's not terrible. I think I'll go that route Thursday morning, along with my toe covers, when it's supposed to be 24°F.
Tomorrow morning should be only about 38°, so the wool socks alone should be plenty.

Actually I looked at the reviews for those LG boots and many of them were pretty bad. Poor construction, and didn't do much of anything below 35-ish degrees, which would be a no-go for me. I need something that will keep toes warm down to about 20°F.
SPD sandals with say, wool socks and then neoprene socks over that sound like a decent option, albeit odd-looking. I might look into that.

I do have a pair of SPD sandals. I might give them a try, it's supposed to be low 20s towards the end of the week. That will be too perfect if they really work. Tom suggested them so I've got great hopes for them.
Everyone around here thinks I plumb-crazy-nuts for riding when I do, wait 'til they see the sandals.

Update: Yeah for Amazon Prime.......I just ordered these. They should be here Wednesday just before the colder weather hits.

Be sure to wear them over something like wool socks, and let us know how it works out.
