Took a perfectly good set of 622-47 Continental travel contacts , still fine , put on Schwalbe marathon Plus .

so People stopped looking at the smooth center band with a row of knobs on the edges , and offering the knobby MTB tire was worn out.

they are the Conti .. Ride past the end of the paved world, adventure touring tire.

Will Ship the used ones for cost of Postage and Handling.

Of late I am running Continental Speed King cross tyres on the hybrid and some lower end Kenda cross tyres on my Peugeot fixed gear to handle the mixed conditions on the roads.

If we get more snow / ice my R20 and my wife's Breezer still have their studded tyres.

Her Peugeot is running the Continental Touring Plus which I find to be another nice offering from Continental.

I use Tufo Elite Ride 25's on my commuter rig. About 80 psi in front, 90'ish in rear. I go through probably two sets a year, have never flatted on the commute.

Continental City Contact 26x1.5 50 psi. Love 'em. Great for commuting on pavement or packed gravel. Not so great for soft surfaces. No knobs on the sides/other, which is fine for my ride. Excellent puncture resistance and lifetime. I've got about 10K miles on a set with zero (I didn't say that) flats.

Wife has Conti City Contact II tires on her urban commuter/utility bike.
Zero flats. Excellent ride quality.
Great tires as well for everything but mud and the soft stuff. Agreed.

Just put on two new Bontrager AW2 700x25 tires last night. I don't guess I had ever mounted a bead tire before. A YouTube how-to told me to put a little air in the tube. That made the difference.

I must have weak hands though. In the video - which was done by Continental - showed the guy putting the tire on in about 10 seconds with no tools. It took me more like 10 minutes with a tire lever. And yes, I pinched one tube in the process and had to do it all over again.

Since we are talking tires, I'll put in my 2 cents worth.

I agree with Noglider that tires are the absolute most important thing you can use to change your bike. I've been riding the discontinued 40mm Schwalbe Duremes. These are pretty nice riding tires and while they are not particularly slow, they are also not particularly fast. Last week I put my 32mm Vittoria Hypers back on and it is literally like I bought a new bike. Compared to the Duremes, they are blazing fast. I think they are basically a racing tire upsized and toughened enough for touring.

I would love to try some of Jan Heine's tires but at 400 lbs, I think the Hypers are as far as I'm going with performance tires. I've heard too many instances of Heine's tires being easily damaged by normal weight riders.

I've got 55mm Big Apples on my MTB and they are sweet. There is an acceleration/rolling penalty due to their weight but it's almost insiginificant. They are suprisingly fast for such a huge tire. I would not hesitate to ride them over any kind of hard packed terrain, even rough stuff. I just wouldn't ride them on any surface where most would say knobbies are needed (ie, loose soil, mud, etc..). These might be a very good choice for the OP's commuter MTB. A bit pricey but all Schwalbes are.

Someday, I'm going to have a custom frameset built and the biggest dilemna I have is whether to choose 26", 700c or even 650B wheels. That decision will likely be most impacted by the tire selection for each when I commission the frameset. If Vittoria made a 26" 50mm Hyper...my decision would be easy.

Was it a non-event or did you get the excitement of the tube BLOWING at 40-60 psi?

I just ordered a pair Continental Grand Prix 4-season 700x28 to replace my Kenda Kwick Cross since most of my riding is on pavement or gravel. They seemed like the best mix of performance, versatility, and protection for my situation.

I was on Schwalbe Marathon Supremes which to me, didn't exactly live up to their name. They were okay, but not worth the premium price. I just switched over to Panaracer Pasela PTs. Too early for me to comment on their durability, but they do seem to have better grip and lower rolling resistance at a lighter weight than the Supremes. The Panaracers came recommended by my LBS who hasn't steered me wrong on tires yet.

Sorry, no excitement. The tube had very little in it when it happened. It wasn't until after the tire was all the way on and I was trying to air it up that I noticed it.

I have the grand bois cerf blue tires extra leger tires. Light, very fast and smooth. These are the first tires where I really noticed a differnce in ride quality. Really nice tires, love these tires. Really expensive tires too.
Really like the schwalbe durano 32mm tires. Have found them to as advertised, no punctures so far, durable and fast.

I've been using the Forte Metro-K (26 x 1.25) and am happy with them, although the only gravel I travel is about a 200 meter shortcut through a ravine. I usually buy relatively high end tires, so even more reason to be pleasantly surprised.

+1. I got a set of Continental Top Contact II tires (42-622, ~65-70 psi) a month ago. Best mixed surface tires I've owned. Very sticky on road surfaces in both dry and wet conditions. Great cornering traction. No issues on packed trails, light gravel, or grass. I'm very happy with them, especially after testing a set of Specialized Armadillo Hemispheres that wore really well but cornered like I was driving a bus and their traction was pretty iffy.
