When Art Attacks!
While riding my bike to work through Colorado College this morning I was almost "clothes lined" by a red string strung across the path stetching from one end of the quadrangle to the other, about 300 yards. A grounds keeper just happened by and said it was part of an art installation and was supposed to be much higher up. After I alerted two more bicyclists a clean cut blond-haired young man stepped out of nowhere and announced that he was the artist and that it was much higher last night. Two more cyclists came through and I had to warn them as the "artist" wasn't concerned. I asked him what is the theme of this work. "It's an exploration of spatial relationships," he said. "You see," he continued "this used to be a Christian college..." I had to warn another cyclist, lost interest. Told him to raise it up or take it down, and rode off.

Oh hey, another poster from Colorado Springs!
Is it just me, or do you find the CC quad to be less than optimal for biking through in general? I've tried, but never managed to find any useful shortcuts through the CC campus that are any improvement over riding on Nevada, Uintah, or Cache La Poudre (and Cascade is one of my favorite cycling routes in the city). Admittedly I've not spent a lot of time riding around that campus, other than when I've gone to access the Tutt Library's collections as a UCCS student, but from what I've seen it's never very appealing to ride through.
That string though... terribly poor judgement, you could have cut it down and I think most folks would've agreed you did the right thing.

I think you have to use the artistic approach for stuff like this. Recruit a few people who have the time to ride into it slowly and entangle themselves, and lay on the ground tangled up as a new art installation.

Cascade Ave, which is the street to the right, and Nevada which is just behind Shove (rhymes with 'rove') are not bike friendly IMHO. I have been riding through CC for 22 years. A cyclist just has to realize there will be pedestrians and they have the right of way, so go slow around blind corners and use your bell in advance. The main North South path was paved last year, so it is not muddy after waterings. Here is a link to my three main routes, although I often follow variations of each.
