Celebrating a small milestone

I moved into Manhattan in April and committed to commuting to work - a short run just over 4 miles each way - by bike whenever the weather allows. Friday I completed my first 100 miles, and I'm really happy about that

Cycling in Manhattan is so much nicer than it used to be. The drivers seem to have accepted that we belong here.

Welcome. What is your daily route? As I've mentioned elsewhere, I moved (back) to Manhattan in August 2013.

Thanks, all...
Hi Tom - we should connect. I'm on CPW almost at the north end of the park. I come down CPW and cut into the park @72nd, pop out on 59th then run down 5th to 34th. Coming home I head up on 6th, across on 59th then all the way north on CPW. I agree that drivers are (begrudgingly) accepting of us but pedestrians are another story entirely. Oblivious is the word that comes to mind most often. My wife and I LOVE being in the city.

@ascherer, I just found out that my boss from my first job ever opened a new bike shop near you, called Larry's Freewheeling. He owned a shop in Yorkville for 40 years and sold it and came back out of retirement, perhaps from boredom. Check it out on Yelp. I have never seen such glowing reviews for any type of business. I'm going to pay him a visit for sure.

Have you tried entering the park at the north? I'd think it's pleasanter.

Really? That's cool! Larry's a good guy and his shop is my neighborhood go-to. I went in with my PX-10 shortly after moving in for some bits and pieces. Larry introduced himself and we had a long chat. He's gotten me some parts and supplies, like larger cogs for my Raleigh Sports. Most shops can't even think about vintage parts.

If you find yourself uptown, let me know. I'll email you my number so you can text me.

Andy
