Male red-wing blackbirds are very territorial right now, as they are trying to get females to nest with them. The red blinky probably makes this one get more up close and personal, but I've been attacked by them no matter what I'm wearing.

Red winged blackbird. I got harassed just like that for a solid two minutes by one of those guys last fall. I evidently got too close to it's nest, so it went into it's "dive in, chitter chitter, peck, fly off, repeat" loop, until I was finally far enough away.

Do you have a rear rack? Mount one of these:

Bye-bye birdy.

Maybe if you got a stuffed fake falcon and tied it to your helmet. Like Tonto wore in the new Lone Ranger.

Oh no, I've watched nesting birds harass the local birds of prey unmercifully when they get near the nest. Circle chitter peck repeat. I felt sorry for the... whatever BoP that was, hawk or falcon...

I'll try that but I already tried removing the blinky with no results.

Good point. He might round up some buddies and they'd mob attack dramiscram. It could work as a decoy if he strapped the falcon to his rack instead of helmet.

I'm leaning to the personal grudge theory. OP should disguise himself and his bike and see if he can trick that bird into leaving him alone.

A while back I saw a video from a walking path, from some university in the UK I think. Certain people walking through would get harassed by bird nesting there, every time. Everyone else just strolled through unmolested, oblivious to the danger, but those few would get attacked. The bird just had it in for specific people, and definitely knew them on sight.

There was a study at UW many years ago.

The best news article I could find.

Crows react to threats in human-like way | UW Today

Crows do recognize humans, so why not other birds.

So far I've lucked out, and not been attacked by the wild turkeys that frequent the Confluence Trail, even when some turkey poults crossed the path right in front of me. (Yes I had to look up the word for baby turkeys.)

I was kayaking in the Boundary Waters area and saw 3 or 4 smaller birds doing that. I was watching when the falcon caught one and just kept on flying. It was so cool.

Ha! I also like how you started filming where you knew you would be attacked. Yes, birds can recognize people. They have better vision than we do.

A mockingbird used to swoop near my dog near the bird's nest, I assume for the same reason. Good thing the bird didn't make contact, because it would have freaked my dog out.
