I am delighted by the Orwellian use of the word "utility." That makes the whole exercise worthwhile to me.

As owner of an uptown, i can personally say it's the most useful bike i've ever ridden, let alone owned. I've probably ridden a few hundred different bikes over the years.

Well that settles that. Time to close the thread as there is nothing left to discuss.

Yes technically traveling north on Connecticut is 'uphill' however calling that a hill is like calling the roughly 1.5ft per 1mi elevation increase driving west on I-70 from St. Louis to Kansas City up hill.

I live in Arlington and ride the Rossyln hill regularly...yea hills exist in the DC area, but be realistic; most elevation changes cyclists experience around here are from bridge overpasses.

A funny thing about DC...it's like LA...very few people living here are actually from here.

You need to ride in the city more. I used to climb Loughboro/Nebraska from MacArthur to Ward Circle every day. I live at Cathedral,so no matter where I go,it's a hill climb to get home. Palisades,Tenley,Cathedral,Glover,G'Town,Cleve Park,Dupont,Mt Pleasant...basically all of NW(where a good chunk of people actually live) is hills.

The Evo is cool, but it has a super high bottom bracket, coupled with the need for a larger frame to accommodate the rack system. It really looks like it makes for an odd/tough fit. Smaller riders may not get the lower height they need due to the larger frame, and taller riders are crunched up due to the higher bottom bracket height. You can see in the video that the rider has to point his toes to reach the ground at a stop, but while riding doesn't come close to the proper leg extension.

The ultimate urban bike is a Brompton. Seamless integration with other urban methods of transportation. Well, and everything else you need, fenders, racks, internal gears, etc...

Yeah, that's a good one. Try the Custis Trail from Key Bridge. Most routes out of the Potomac River valley upstream of the city have a decent climb. Once you are in the tidal plain downstream, it's a lot less hilly.
