Bikes: 2012 Trek Allant, 2016 Bianchi Volpe Disc

Legs
30-50 => pants
15-30 => pants and tights/long underwear
<15 => car

Torso/Arms
25-50 => long-sleeve base layer
15-25 => long-sleeve base layer and sweatshirt
<15 => car

Feet
15-40 => wool socks and boots
<15 => car

Hands
25-40 => fleece mittens
15-25 => ski gloves
<15 => car

Head
15-40 => face mask and helmet cover
<15 => car


I could go below 15, but I'd need warmer footwear and gloves. I tried riding one day when it was about 8F last year and showed up at work not being able to feel my toes or hands. Luckily, those days aren't very common here.

Last year I wore PI bib knickers all winter, and sometimes I would slide tights on over them if we actually made it down to 40 and below. This year I am going to try some PI P.R.O. bib tights with a chamois that I found new on ebay for $35. I figure that was a pricing mistake, but it made it worth buying them. My worry is that they will be great in the am, but they might be a bit much for the warmer pm commute.

Bikes: Stormchaser, Paramount, Tilt, Samba tandem

In the cooler weather I'll switch to a more upright bike with a softer saddle. Then I wear snowboard gear, which is windproof and adjustably breathable. It doesn't get too cold here, around freezing at the worst.
