First month commuting numbers are in
I commuted 320km, and I was limited to daytime hours for the first half because my lights hadn't come in yet. And I've lost nearly 20lbs.
At this rate, I will reach my goal of riding 1,600km (1,000 miles) this year. |
Great job on your first month of commuting. You will definitely reach your goal of 1,600 per year. Are you commuting 5 days a week?
|
congrats! Isn't it a great feeling? Keep it rolling!
|
Congrats!
|
Hold on. 320 km causes you to lose 20 lbs? What kinda shady measurement system are you peddling here?

Well done. Keep it up.

I would never have thought a month of bike commuting could remove 20 pounds. That's pretty amazing.

Again, more like a month and a half. And this daily commuting is the most consistently active I've been since high school.
I totally believe you. I've lost 10lbs in the last month and a half of cycling and watching my diet. I lost an unknown amount before that (I don't weigh myself very often) but quite a lot. 50+ lbs over the past year? I've had to take a knife and cut holes in belts that are fairly new and ones that are years old so that they'll cinch tight enough to fit my shrinking waistline. 255 going on 195. |
Life is grand when you roll through on two self powered wheels, no? :)

I'm more so talking about the metric/customary mashup you pulled. Kilometers go with kilograms; miles go with pounds.

I think I'm actually going to return it to Costco and get the next smallest size down.

Uhh... why would I be joking? You can't try stuff on you buy at Costco, that's why they have the nice return policy, especially for clothes.

But you used it. You want them to refund you because you lost weight?

Of course I understand that, but the return policy is intended to allow you to return something that wasn't right for you. It was right at the time of purchase. His needs changed, and the item is used. The company may take it back in the spirit of customer satisfaction, but it is still costing the company, even though they sold him exactly the product he was looking for at the time.

Yeah, but that's between him and the good people of Costco.

Of course it is. Now you have twice told me things that are obvious to me. I am expressing my surprise that someone would have such chutzpah. I'm not making a decision for him, though. I have no delusion that I can do that for him.

Oy. I've been as clear as I know how to be already. Forgive me for mentioning ethics in a bike forum. I guess they don't go together?
|
Nicely done. Keep on keep'n on...

I'm very impressed by weight loss stories, because my own experience has been that bike commuting leads to increased consumption of beer and bacon, and not weight loss.
On one hand, I'm not losing weight, but on the other hand beer makes me happy, and I'm spared from the ethical temptation of returning my used over-sized clothing for refunds. |
