Rain yesterday in Oxfordshire and cold (-2C) lots of black ice this morning. First time to slide down on my side. No problems but looked stupid since I didn't zip one of the pockets on the small bag on the back. Spent about 10 minutes picking up all the small change. grrrrrrrrrrrr!
Another reason why I cam glad I do not lock my feet to the pedals.

The stars and planets must have aligned this morning. 2.5 mi this morning without stopping! All but one green lights and it turned yellow as I entered. A record for me on my commute.

Temps around 0F this morning, and beautiful, clear skies - the sun is so wonderful.
I took the direct route to the office for the first time in a few weeks. I typically avoid it in the winter/night/bad weather, since this route includes 1.5 miles of a county road: 4-lane, 40 mph without any bike facilities. I've rarely had any issues with this road (rare buzz-passes and/or honking), but this road always makes me nervous. Related note, while riding home in heavy snow last month, I was crossing this county road on a bike path, as I was stopped waiting for the light, another biker went by on the county road. Proof that we all have our own level of comfort on the roads.

This week is not shaping up to be good for riding.
Monday - no ride because it was 2F and windy
Today - no ride because of 2-3" of snow overnight
Wednesday - possible ride, highs in the 20s
Thursday - no ride because of forecast 4F and snow
Friday - no ride because of forecast 6F
Brrrrr!

So cold... so much snow...
These weekly blizzards make it impossible to ride, especially when the city insists on using bike lanes as storage space for unwanted snow. It pains me every time I have to swipe my subway card, I've even gained 2lbs in my bike commuting hiatus!
I know I had that epic post a couple pages back regarding my commute the day after the blizzard but man, after riding in snow for a couple days straight it really wore down my body. My 80min commute became nearly 2 hours and plowing through hardened snow with my wheels takes a lot of effort. I'm not riding again until I see clear bike lanes!

Hey, we're just thrilled we have bike lanes whether they're obstructed or not! 3F this morning and I rode the whole 11 miles with low air in my back tire - too damn cold to stop and add air

Office was closed yesterday for President's Day. Late yesterday the snow flurries started and then turned to sleet and/or freezing rain. It continued through most of the night an left about .25" of ice on everything. My office delayed our opening until noon. I drove in mainly since I wasn't going to fight the ice turning to slush conditions. I could possibly have done in on my mountain bike, but would likely have taken twice as long.
It is warming up to upper 30s today so a lot of it should melt, but I'll wait until the morning before deciding about tomorrow. Brutal cold coming next with Thursday's high expected to be about 19F.

Truth is, if you don't get these conditions often, you aren't likely going to have the right gear and it would be a poor choice to ride. Since Minnesota winters last 9 months [/sarcasm], most of my bike gear is winter gear (shared duty with snowboarding).

Quick ride in today with snow falling fast enough to keep the roads covered and the commute fun, but not fast enough to be a pain.

Good thing you don't live in MPLS, you'd miss 3 to 4 months of biking!

-3f/-19c this morning. I had my usual frigid temps outfit on and didn't have to add anything. The Snow sneakers worked good with two pair of socks, one was wool hiking sock, and toe warmers and gaitors. Toes were good after 45 mins. The aftn was 18f/-7c, the main roads were clear, the side streets were frozen hardpack.

17 F / -8 C. We had a snow day yesterday here in the DC area, roughly 4-6 inches came down (sounds like nothing but we are not equipped to deal with it properly). This remainder week is the week of frigid temps. Today was not too bad I have to say, no wind makes a diferrence. Overall streets were ok and I only had a single strtch of hard packed snow to deal with.
Tomorrow is another story, will be colder.

i have not ridden since Feb 4th and I miss it.
we have had cold and ice and my wife has asked me to not ride. I dont think I have the tires to deal with snow/ ice anyway. I think have the clothes but my michelin citys are smooth and i am not sure if I can fit my cyclocross tires under my fenders. 30mm and fenders are 35mm
looks like this week will be a wash. calling for more snow today and a high of 17 tomorrow. I know that is not what some of you all in up north deal with but here in NC the roads are not quite safe. I also am concerned with car drivers not paying attention and sliding into me.

-10F this morning with windchills are -25F to -30F (15 mph) - thankfully the winds were mostly tailwinds. Took about 50 minutes to ride 10 miles to the office.
Needed to stop and open some vents (getting too hot), so I took a frosty selfie:
* Yes, I know... I'm a dork, but at least I'm a happy dork.

Icy spots still remain on the roads here. Like RidingMatthew said, the slick tires aren't good for this. The roads were mostly clear, but shaded spots were still mostly ice. I drove my bike route this morning to see how much it was and it was significant enough that I'm glad I didn't ride.
I may just call this week a bust because it probably won't melt enough until this weekend. Or perhaps I'll get motivated and ride my mountain bike.

Yeah, and they're Canadian arctic blasts that I wish our Canadian friends would keep to themselves! I wimped today - single digits with 25mph wind gusts. I can handle the cold but the wind makes me a total wimp. Tomorrow supposed to be sub zero but if winds are calm I'll ride... maybe

My father passed away and we are flying back East for the funeral, so no commutes to be had for a while.

I had a great time this morning. I broke through my barrier and headed out in 21ºF (-6ºC) weather with heavy-ish winds. Rather than one, I wore two pairs of socks, two hats under my helmet, two pairs of pants (really a baselayer plus regular trousers), and two pairs of gloves. I put CX tires on my bike to handle the snow and ice, and they helped tremendously. I feel like it was a triumph. @dramiscram, that's impressive, but so is your climate.

Went out for lunch, found out that 15mph 'tailwind' is still there.... that will be a headwind for ride home Temps are 'up to' 0F - windchill forecast is -15F and I'm riding into it. Ok, I'm done whining (for now).
