It's sunny and 37F and Friday and no one else is in the office, just finished my beer... Time to messy in the spring melt while riding home with a big grin!

3f/-16c this morning. One more day of bitter cold and things should start looking up.The aftn was sunny and 21f. Although it felt warmer than that.

I wussed out today. The headwind going home last night was brutal, and my legs were shot. Tomorrow, the plan is to enjoy a nice 50-60 mile coastal ride with a couple fellow commuter friends of mine, and if I rode today, it would have made tomorrow less enjoyable. It's going to be so nice riding my bike for the pure enjoyment of riding a bicycle.

Tomorrows ride sounds glorious. There is no shame in taking a rest day. If you can post some photos on tomorrow's commute to enjoyment town please do. Have a great ride!

Bikig in to work this morning at 4am - crossing the lions gate bridge - on the down slope one the lights on my pannier strap jumped off while going over a bump. Stopped and turned around to retireve it - there was a mens wallet laying next to it. Someone will be happy when they get home and check their answering machine.

Funniest part: I got the guys phone number off his UCI membership card :D

That at is quite coincidental, good for you cv. I had a roomie this past week who works for the ferries.

I think this is a good reason for roadies to use saddle bags, or heaven forbid a top tube pannier; in lieu of cramming jersey pockets full.

I used to joke with a club I rode my LHT with in Kingston that I would bring the wine and cheese in my panniers, then I got to Vancouver and I went for a club ride and was told if I wished to continue I'd have to remove my racks.

You'll get a karma rebate for your good deed! I've also found a wallet before, middle of the street...on a bike we notice those things.

45F / 7C I think Winter has receded finally...still a bit of snow here and there but the weekend was beautiful and today will follow suit. Nice to shed some layers.

Plunged into darkness again this morning with the start of daylight savings time. Personally, I am starting to wish we would just stay on standard time. My commute was pretty much daylight coming and going to work until the change. On the plus side, I can take the long way home on occasion and extend my RT commute to 45+ miles!

Speaking of karma, I'm still waiting on mine. I've returned at least one lost wallet to its rightful owner, but when I lost mine, some lowlife had charged $500 worth of electronics equipment on my VISA card before I even got home.

Spring is in full effect in my part of N Carolina. 50F this morning, overcast and threatening rain, but probably not today. No wallets found, but there was a dead possum in the road.

After yesterday's time change, it was dark when I left at 7am this morning. My lights and reflective gear came back on for my ride in.

The high today will be about 65 and the rest of the week looks to be rainy, yet still in the 60s or higher.

finally roads are opened wide enough for me to feel comfortable riding again. temps are going to be decent rest of week. been a long month and half here in the boston area.

Interesting morning commute, back to all-lights-on morning ride. Plus the thaw is in full effect, but overnight temps we back below freezing... Lots of pucker up moments. I opted for the summer-commuter mostly for the afternoon ride... the refreeze on the morning ride with 700x28 tires was better at waking me up than coffee, on this first day after we changed the clocks again (why do we still do this????).

Ditto! It's dark again, lots of thawing snow over the weekend and sub freezing temps overnight. While I didn't ride my 700x28 bike I did ride my new bike (700x37's) instead of studly tired bike and the patches of ice were definitely sphincter factor 10. I'll take the 30F+ temps though.

From Toronto, it's like waking up on January 26th. It won't be until 31 days until I'll be waking up to daylight again. Some kids in Northern Canada will go back to walking to school in the dark. Daylight "Savings?" Time?

The weekend above freezing and the overnight re-freezing has caused a lot of sharp edges on the snow, ice and tracks in the park trails. Yesterday's slush has hardened and made biking on them a real challenge.

I agree, but which time makes sense? Or should we split the difference and change to half an hour off of current time?

If we stayed on the winter time, then wouldn't mid-summer be light at about 5am? Or earlier?
And if we stayed on summer time, then mid-winter wouldn't get light until about 8:30am.

I suppose we'd just used to whatever it turned out to be.

Just pick one, honestly, it doesn't matter. In Minneapolis, winter days are so short, you'll miss sunshine while you're in the office (sunrise 8:00 and set at 4:30). In the summer sunrise is before 5:30 and doesn't set until after 9:00. Arizona and Hawaii don't bother changing the clocks. (like it matters in Hawaii anyway... )

With the time change, the bike-trail commuter brigade arrived in force. I've been lonely these past five months but no longer!

I saw what appeared to be a cyclist stopped by a cop. He was on a road bike and wearing some kind of kit. But I was headed downhill and saw him a few hundred feet up the cross street and didn't have a chance to study the tableau to figure out what was going on.

Which time makes sense? The correct one, of course. That's the one the Sun is telling us.

Studies have also told us the DST does NOT save energy. The early morning wake-ups mean lights are turned on again as people again wake up in the dark. The late evenings in the summer mean air conditioners are left on for longer too.

Some people like waking up early. I tell them to go ahead and wake up early, then.

DST doesn't affect me this time of year since the sun rises well before I leave the house. I still don't understand why we have it.

I had a nice ride in this morning. Lots of gravel on the road from the snow plows last week. Hopefully the street sweepers come out soon.

Might be t-shirt weather tomorrow (high forecast in the 50s). I'm looking forward to it!

First commute in a couple of weeks. The warmer temps were nice change from the record breaking cold we've had lately. I still had to get off the bike and push through some snow that hadn't melted yet. I wish the time hadn't changed. Dark again in the mornings. We're supposed to be warm all week with rain forecasted everyday.

30f/-1c this morning. Back on the road tires. The aftn was great. Sunny and 50f/10c. All of the snow is pretty much melted off of the streets. I had a few frozen spots this morning, but I just steered around them. Calling for rain tom'rw, but temps in the 50's all week.

I'm going to like DST, for now anyway. My morning ride was still in the dark anyway, but now I'll have daylight for my ride home. I have a really pretty commute route and it's nice to actually be able to see it.

I was too sleepy today, because I have a cold, I had a busy weekend, and because of the time change. So I took the subway. I'm thinking of riding in tomorrow even though we should have rain. Let it rain. It's not cold any more. Hallelujah!

On my descent this morning I looked up a side street and saw a cop had stopped a roadie. I went by too fast to grok why.

Just to close the loop on this, the guy did come pick up his wallet and was nice enough to give me a bottle of wine.

On a weird note - on the day it happened several people at work asked me if I thought the guy had jumped off the bridge. Never occured to me as a possibility when I found the wallet, and I'm happy to say that wasn't the case, just seems like a dark place for people's minds to go...
