I had to pull over this morning and let a school bus pass. There were about 15 cars behind him and he would not pass. After that the ride was nice and relaxing. I look forward to this afternoon.

I had my biggest week of the year last week 101.3 I did a 47mile charity ride and my legs were a little sore this morning. The winds were all over the place today. 50 degrees when I pushed off today. THey were calling for rain and 45degrees, so I will take 50 and a little breezy. NO tailwind for me a lot of headwind and sidways but faster than some of my other commutes. I was pleased with the time considering the wind swirling around me. There was even more daylight this morning too.

This morning the road are finnaly dry but the temp was very low at -16°c, on a 23rd of march!
with a heavy crooswind/headwind. It's only my 11th ride of the year.

the ride in this morning was really nice; my legs felt fresh, and traffic was a bit lighter than usual. My wife works a couple miles up the road, and we crossed paths right before I turned off to my building; it sure feels nice to have a car pull up next to you and yell, Hey! I love you! Nice way to start the day.

Flat tire 2 blocks from the office. Walked it across the last intersection then rolled downhill to the driveway. Fixed the flat at lunchtime, found the pointy end of a thorn or something sticking through the inside of the tire. Pulled it out but not sure I got it all, couldn't get more, couldn't find it on the outside, hoping for the best for the ride home.

Also, too rainy and cold for fingerless gloves, my fingers are still wrinkled 4 hrs later.

6 minutes off both ends of my commute without pushing it and 15-25 mph crosswinds on the way home. I still need to tweak the seat (too low) and the tires are on the low end of the pressure range.

Woot! New Bike!

I am going into town to meet my wife this afternoon so I switched to the road bike. The commute in was a little cool but nice. For the newbies interested I am three minutes faster on my road bike than my hybrid.

It was another chilly ride to work today with the temp at 17f degrees when I left the house, but hey that is 3 degrees up from yesterday and the wind is almost non-existent this morning. So weather wise things are better today. I was able to ride the longer ride home last night and I am thinking I will do the same again this evening.

Chillier this morning at 41F, but I still went with shorts since it's going to be 70+ this afternoon.

One alternative neighborhood street I take sometimes has a row of trees lining the road. One day I noticed a branch dangling about cyclists' head height and about 3 feet from the curb. Easily avoided if you see it, but until there are leaves on it, it kinda blends in with all the other trees.

The next two times I took that street, I didn't see it, but instead heard and felt a loud WACK on my helmet as I hit it. It is just the end of branch with no major thickness, but definitely caught me off guard.

Last night I noticed my cycling shoes are pulling apart between the soles and the uppers. I may try some gorilla glue or contact cement or something. If that won't hold I'll be doing some shopping. The shoes are probably close to 15 years old.

I was planning on riding home yesterday and thought if I inflated my tires a smidge more I might have less resistance. I blew out the sidewall before I left the building. This tire had over 4000 miles on it. I guess I should have listened to the voice that said buy a new tire to have on hand. Called the wife to come get me and drove home:(

The tailwind that made for a pleasant ride yesterday morning smacked me upside the head in the afternoon. Same NE wind this morning, but hopefully it will let up by afternoon.

There was a major construction accident yesterday at a high-rise building along my route, killing 3 workers. A scaffolding broke off and fell 11 stories. Police had the entire block taped off yesterday afternoon. Looks like I will have to avoid that area for a while.

34F into work this morning. Stuck to the highway most of the way because I just wanted to get to work. Almost can see the sun by the end of my commute.

A bit chilly this morning...about 30F when I left. Hopefully things warm up soon so I can get my vegetable garden started. I want to get some spinach before the weather gets too hot.

I decided to skip today, and let the legs rest. Yesterdays ride home was great- about half way home, I could see a hi vis jersey and blinky light about a quarter mile ahead of me on the MUT- they were riding about the same pace as me, so I wasn't closing the gap. Then, to my surprise, I came around a bend, and saw that the rider had stopped to talk to a walker with a dog. Just as I was about to pass, he started riding again, and since I wasn't in a racy mood, I soft pedaled to let him get a gap. Well, he knew I was behind him, so he slowed, and I caught up and said hello. The riders name was Ray, and he was about as geeked out as me; hi vis, goofy clothes, a Surly Cross Check all commuted out; he was one of us. :) We had a great few miles together- he was an awesome guy. During our chat, he mentioned posting daily on a website for commuters. I was floored and excited- during the ride, I really thought that he posted here, but I think he posts over at Bikejournal- I'm gonna go search him out, and see if I can get him on board here. Ray was an awesome guy, probably in his 60's, that's out there busting out several days a week just because he loves riding his bike. The icing on the cake was that he too was also into C&V. Sweet!

Glorious commutes this week so far. Upper 40's in the mornings, low 70's in the afternoons. Yesterday was darn near perfect. Motorists behaved themselves, I was pretty comfortable on the bike. "Everything is awesome!" :p This afternoon I'll have a nice tailwind which will make it even better.

Today marks the first time since the first week of December that I have commuted by bike 2 days in a row. I'll need a break tomorrow for sure. Chance of rain Thursday, not sure if I'll be able to ride or not.

Warmer, or less cold, this morning, with -10°c. No Wind at all, which was a big change compare to the last few weeks.

Good. Took the TCX for the first time in weeks instead of the balloon bike hybrid/mtb mobber. Forgot how much quicker and easier that thing rolls, lol. Looked like rain, and we're all praying for rain here in California. But it didn't come.

Nice 50 degrees ride in this morning. I did get to the main road and realize I forgot my helmet of all things. I turned around and got it and added 1 mile to my commute. Today and tomorrow are supposed to be beautiful days. I'm having fun with this commuting thing right now.

I heard about that. That is terrible!

yesterday going home was good. stopped by an office to obtain a NYC ID. then took brooklyn bridge home from 6:30-7 pm. it was a nice ride

this morning was cold yet again. tired of the cold. almost didn't commute today cuz i didn't want to deal with the cold (ironic since i've been riding thru the winter). 33 F this AM. but really just felt mentally not up to it.

but it ended up a nice ride again this morning. rode nice and slow.

Everything was off kilter this morning. I felt like taking a rest day, but there's a high probability of rain on Thursday and Friday, so I decided to gut it out. Winds were due out of the east, which is atypical, so I was catching headwinds and tailwinds in different spots than usual. Pedestrians kept walking out in front of me. Caught every red light ... oh wait, that's what usually happens.

A nice 54F for the ride in today, though it is overcast skies. I took the short MUP detour on the way in to add a couple of miles.

As predicted, another awesome ride home yesterday. Felt good, nice tailwind, averaged nearly 15 MPH which is very fast for me - 15.5 miles in under 1:05. Not sure about that time, total elapsed time was 1:06 when I got home but I know I was stopped waiting for lights or traffic, or resting for probably 3-4 minutes total. Temps in the mid-upper 70's which means I'm really starting to break a sweat now.

Took the car to work this morning, first time I've driven my car since Friday. Saw a guy on a bike riding right on the edge line of a high-traffic 2-lane state highway. I slowed down, then changed lanes to pass. Others in front and behind me straddle-passed, as is typical.

46F, wet and windy, but that's 20 degrees warmer than yesterday - this is Spring weather. And tomorrow it starts to get cold again, predicting snow for Friday. I did something I said I'd never do - added a heart rate monitor to my commutes. The result has been faster times to work which say makes no difference to me. Apparently it does

How did the HRM result in faster times?

I put new tires on my bike, and I don't know if it's coincidence, but I'm seeing much higher speeds. I've been averaging less than 12 mph on my commute, and today, it was 13.8. They are Vittoria Voyager Hypers, which are said to be fast tires, but I got them in the 37mm rated size. They are huge.

Other possible explanations: I'm riding more vigorously and might be getting stronger. The wind was more favorable than usual.

Anyway, I'm at my desk feeling fresh, not as if I've done something terribly challenging.

I haven't seen any other riders out yet. I'm sure it will happen soon, once the weather warms up a bit. 50F seems to be most people's limit around here.

Even the nasty headwinds couldn't spoil this ride home.

Ordered two new tires for the commuter. Rode the road bike to work today with just a backpack. 3-4 minutes faster. avg speed was 16.8mph. It is so much lighter not carrying panniers in the building. It made me feel like I forgot something. Top speed was 38.5mph on a short hill which interestingly enough is the same top speed I had on the commuter on Monday but the road bike carried the speed much farther down the road. 23 vs 28 tires and less weight too I guess.

I also realized that I had my old cyclocross tires that came on the commuting bike. I could have switch the tires and rode it in. Would you change both tires so they match or just the busted one and ride with a miss match?

I am might get wet on the way home but tomorrow is calling for 80% chance of rain throughout the day. So I figured I would take a chance today....
