I had a great day yesterday despite a mechanical. The B-tension spring on my old crappy RD popped out of its hole again, sticking me in 22 or higher rear cog. Fortunately a tailwind was pushing me up the hill.

Just a couple km round trip to a co-worker's place to fix some computer issues. Better than nothing, I guess.

Is it May or March? Brr, it was chilly this morning. Despite the cold, my daughter wanted to ride her bike to school again - we were going to wait until Friday, but the forecast looks damp.
We stopped about a mile from the school to help a kid change a flat (rear tire of his Mongoose mountain bike). I found it strange that he was a senior in high school and didn't know how to change a flat tire. That said, he seemed grateful that I took the time to give him a quick lesson. Upon finishing up, I handed him the biz card for the LBS (I carry extras to promote them) and told him to stop by for a flat repair kit if he's going to ride any sort of distance. He then admitted he doesn't ride his bike very often, he just missed his bus today and had no other choice. |
Today was the third day in a row I rode to work this week, and it's the first time I've ridden three days in a row since I started the job in December. I'm riding more vigorously now. For some reason, I had been holding back until now. I use, as an inspiration, my daughter's dog, because she is super energetic. She does everything with excessive vigor, and it gives her joy, so why shouldn't I do that?
Here is the view along my new route over the Henry Hudson Bridge. Amazing, huh? https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-S...2009.40.14.jpg |

I was clocked on my way home at 27 MPH in a 25 MPH zone on a slight downhill by a portable one of these:
http://bikeforums.net/attachment.php...hmentid=451442 It flashed the speed in red numbers when I was over the speed limit. |
Really enjoying the commute these days. I started work later in the day so I took the long way to work and got in some single track action. Loving it.

Great ride in this morning - witnessed a beautiful morning sunrise, 41 degrees, no traffic, no wind. The ride home on Friday is nothing to look forward to though people seem to drive faster on Friday and I see a lot of head down time looking at their phones.

Great morning.. perfect temp and slight breeze. Did my 12th street bridge climb today with ease. First injury of this year. Have to watch those light rails they're putting in. Knew it was going to happen.. oh well the gloves protected my hands and just a small scrap on the knee could of been worse!

It is May, I can smell the lilacs as I ride. I love the smell of lilacs. Though I do have to say it was also 41f degrees when I left the house this am.
Though another nice commute to work today after having not riding yesterday. I was helping a friend by taking her son to his baseball game. |
No ride yesterday as I was off work for a personal day.
Nice ride in this morning. Overcast and looking like it could rain, but forecast doesn't call for it. I can smell honeysuckles along the road on my route. |
It's bike to work day here and I was part of the pomp and circumstance - which just means I had to leave early. Lots of people on bikes which is nice to see. At one intersection two guys all kitted out pulled up next to me and one guy commented on my cool, waterproof "bags." I said that's what one needs when riding in the rain - he gave me a blank stare, I could hear his brain trying to comprehend "ride in the rain"

There were a few more commuters out this morning for bike-to-work day, but not many. I usually just ride straight to work, but today I decided to celebrate and stopped off for a coffee about a mile from work. It was a really nice morning to sit outside and enjoy a few moments of silence! I do find it interesting that the designated bike parking (which is nice), is also part of the designated smoking section. Just one of those little things I think are funny I guess. Have a good day everyone! http://i1057.photobucket.com/albums/...pslhf0j8sf.jpg |
Great ride this morning with a little nip in the air. Stopped at the BTWD event and they were already out of t-shirts in my size by 7:30 am, but got one for my daughter and some other swag. This was my first 5-day commute week in quite a while. My legs were tired from all of the riding and the fast pace I've been keeping all week, so I took it easy.
|
That's cool... been by there a few times but never stopped. I pretty sure they're not open when I come in though. After that caffeine the ride would go by quick!

Despite what I'm assuming is an anti-Bike-to-Work-Day, lizard-man-conspiracy rain prediction, I still rode in to work. Not a drop. :thumb:

noglider....Tom, I think you win for most scenic view!
Ride in today was great. It is National Bike to Work Day and our local bike and pedestrian advocacy group organized a short ride down Main St from the Capital building. I left early to make it there (started at 0745 - which is usually the time I try and leave the house) and I volunteered to ride in from my side of the river with anyone else who was coming from that direction. No one else showed up at the meeting point...oh well haha. I make it to the State House, I am the first one there http://i1372.photobucket.com/albums/...psdutxgqe6.jpg Eventually maybe 25ish people assemble and off we go. THey had juice, bananas, water and granola bars - which wasn't enough for about 9 of us so we went over to a cafe across the street and ate breakfast burritos. At 4 there is a "Kick the Keg" party at a local brewery - one of the other events they put on earlier in the month left them with 2 unfinished kegs so free beer this afternoon! |

Wife laid low by a cold, so I'm taking a half day to help entertain the baby. I just towed him 2 mi round trip to the Starbucks.

I am sorry you no longer have lilacs to enjoy, hopefully there is another flower to enjoy!!
I did get to enjoy their scent beside my hospital bed for a few days while they were still blooming. |
after a couple of days of much needed rain, the air was crisp and clear. I love my Saturday commute
