I think it was 52° when I left this morning. I don't remember. I wore a jacket, but had it unzipped by the time I got to work. It was a nice ride in. I like riding in before the sun is up. The way home was ...blah. Dealing with idiots in cars is such a buzz kill. I saw some guy riding a bike the wrong way on a busy street, and looking at his phone while he was at it. Amazing.

Great weather today. Not too chilly this morning, not sweltering in the afternoon, low humidity, and a tailwind going home. :thumb:
Motorists in general were much more well-behaved than they were on Monday. |
Another nice commute to in today. The temp was 58f degrees under a dark sky when I leave at 5:40am. I saw the other person again this morning. Oh and today is the fourth day this week I have forgot some minor piece of my food. Today there will be no pieces of banana on my english muffin and pb.

56F for another cool morning. I skipped the jacket though as it had been a bit too warm yesterday. It was maybe a little cool on my arms and my hands got a little cold too, but I don't mind that. It's better than sweating.
I have the day off tomorrow, so no commute then. Saturday I'm running in a half-marathon as part of my marathon training. |
Four days this week so far. I'm thinking about driving tomorrow so that I can swap out clothing/towel/food stores for next week. Either that, or drive back to work over the weekend just for logistics.
Pleasantly cool temperatures and light fog made for a nice ride this morning. Yesterday, my wife and I had a driver honk repeatedly at intervals while following us on a 2-lane each way road with little shoulder. We were toward the fog line, with ample room to pass within the right lane. But his person just kept honking at times. A single honk. I looked back and waved her(him?) to pass. No dice. So, I took the lane fully. I told my wife that if this driver is unsure of herself (himself?) in negotiating a pass, then we're safer with her (him?) changing lanes to pass. It all resolved itself in about 1/2 mile, and our road narrowed to one lane with an ample shoulder again. Strange. I still don't know what I'd have done differently. |
Getting warmer, 57F this morning. My radio app quick working mid ride so no npr this morning. Kind of nice, totally different ride experience
|
Quite the nice ride in this morning. Got a little caught up in traffic - I swear the first light I encounter has a really short green when school is in session. When it isn't, there are hardly ever backups extending all the way to my subdivision and beyond. I was past it in 2 cycles...5 minutes later and I would have had to go the other way and wind my way around on some back roads.
I was just in the zone. Wasn't trying to "kill it" - but have a nice easy spin. Mission accomplished. |
I forgot to mention my find on the way home last night. There is a gas station less than a mile from my house. I turn right just by it. I was in the right turn lane and saw what might be a credit card. I slowed, and was able to get onto a sidewalk when turning around. I went back and picked it up. It was a corporate credit card that said, "Fuel Only."
Assuming someone had dropped it after visiting the gas station, I went to the front of it and saw an employee outside on a cigarette break. I gave the card to him saying the owner will probably check back here first. He took it and said thanks. I imagine cards are found around the pumps pretty often, so nothing new for them. |
I'd have just kept going this morning if I wasn't running late. Perfect conditions for a bike ride. I'm planning on doubling my commute home this evening, probably with another out and back to the office. Or maybe I'll start out north instead of south and see where the road takes me.
|
Thermometer at my house showed temps right around freezing, and I'm pretty sure I saw some frost on some grassy areas. Time to break out the long pants and jacket. Nice and sunny, though, and a very pleasant commute.
|
Felt fast this morning but no Strava PR's. It's a statistics issue... I've been down this road enough times that 8 seconds slower over a 3 minute section, or a minute slower over the whole commute, puts me out of the running. In order to improve I would need to watch the pace and try to beat it.

Beautiful. Small tailwind. I need to pound it into my head to ALWAYS wear eyewear of some type. I didn't bring my clear glasses because they like to fog in dew-y conditions and took a bug right to the eyeball. Ouch.

So today I decided to drive to work then ride home. I finally tried out my new custom Marin utility bike build for a commute. The verdict: it's definitely slower. Almost exact same conditions as riding home yesterday, but was around 5 minutes slower moving time. But it was definitely a comfy ride! Really getting tired of the section of my commute that's being used as a detour from the adjacent state highway, which is closed in one area through November. So the traffic that would normally be on the 55 MPH 2-lane highway is on the quiet 35 MPH country road instead. And it SUCKS! |
mgw4jc, that was very nice of you to take the time and turn it in the card.
no commute by bike today, but I am going for a weekend bike tour. I am looking forward to that. |
Only rode 3 times this week. Still fighting this issue that the doctors can't figure out. Beat the rain this morning was a good ride. Got chased for the last time this morning.. by this weekend I'll be armed with some sort of dog deterrent. No more playing nice.

Ever gotten one of those waves from a driver that just missed slamming into you at an intersection because they were barreling along and not paying attention, the "yeah I see you but I'm not going to look at you and I did that on purpose because I'm so in control" wave? I got one this morning WITH a waving right-hand cigarette. On the other hand, it was a warm 67F

Been a week where weather or other commitments required me to drive. Finally able to pull it off this morning and had a good ride in. Leaving well before sunrise to avoid sun blind drivers. Added bonus is there's a lot less traffic. Has been unseasonably warm and humid all week. Morning lows were well above normal highs. Until this morning of course. Mid 50's today so broke out the long sleeves.

Nice ride back in, decided to take the road bike back to work instead of the utility bike.
MGIF syndrome is rampant 'round these parts. |
Consecutive day 102: 54 degrees and rainy this morning. Rode my hybrid with fenders instead of my road bike. Realized my front headlight batteries were on their last legs, so I need to remember to replace them when I get home. At least the 30+ mph wind we've been having had settled down for the moment so I didn't have to fight it for the first time this week.
On the 2nd half of my ride in there was a break in the clouds that created a beautiful and vivid rainbow. So that was pretty cool. |
Out and about on the cruiser last night, came to work from the GFs house this morning. I had a travel mug that fit in the cup holder on the cruiser and full of coffee. As I have reported before, this is the best way to make sure you hit all of the lights green. And I had a tail wind. Like I was dreaming or something.

It was a gorgeous morning here in NYC. High 60's at 615AM for the commute and mid 80's and sunny are expected for the commute home at 3PM. I cannot believe how fantastic the weather has been for riding here recently.

Super slow and mellow. Old ladies on shopping trikes and little kids with handlebar streamers dropped me. Lovely.

What started out as a rotten morning commute took a very different turn this morning.
It rained like cats and dogs all night and early morning. The roads and path were wet and some spots were either partially washed out or flooded. At 6 am, with no day light and just my bike light I managed to navigate (slowly) for 6 of my 9 mile commute. Then a flat tire, no big deal right? Well after getting everything changed and ready to use my CO2 to fill the new tire, I discovered the cartridge was empty, the seal was broke. No air. So I walked the 1.5 miles to the nearest gas station for air. After paying $1 for air, I soon discovered that the fancy-shmancy air pump's gage did not fit bike tubes!!! ARGH! So I walked to work, an extra 50 minutes on my commute (only), but I was not happy..... Then things turned..... As I walked down one of the back street to get to work - still fuming from the start of my day - I came up on a parked car on the street. It was parked there which was unusual cuz not many people park there that early in the morning. As I got closer, I thought I saw people in the car. As I passed there were two people in the car, sleeping, with what looked like all their possessions with them in the car's back seat and all over the place. My mood changed right then and there. So many people have it so much worse than a stupid flat tire. I felt about 3 inches tall and pretty ashamed of myself. Sorry this was so long. Just wanted to share. |

Got a different kind of wave yesterday on the way home. A car in the left lane with its left signal light on suddenly veered right and stopped, right in front of me and I had to grab a lot of brake to avoid a collision. As I went around him on the left, he smiled and waved with an "oopsie, my bad, teehee!" look on his face. The look on my face was not so amused. This morning was 5C/41F, which is better than the 0C/32F of yesterday morning, so I'll take it. Pretty nice commute. |
The temp was 43f degrees this morning. A nice commute with very chilly hands. Tomorrow if it is this cold again, I shall wear gloves.
I had a great weekend with the mini-tour we did this weekend! |
