Um, maybe? Kenosha is scheduled for a high of 0. And a "real feel" of -20. I'll know more when I drive down to pick up my dual sport with it's new paragon fork. I'll probably try to scope out the trails the local park and if they look rideable, I'll l t f u!

Dang it. Global warming again this winter.
|
New winter commuter in Cleveland here. My personal record temp is 11 with a windchill around 0. I am weighing out my desire to endure bitter cold and heavy snowfall with responsibility to my wife and kids for my safety.
|
it will be mano y mano. commuter vs. elements.
|
I haven't been on my bike since Friday and I might not be on it again until this Friday.
The wind chill will be around negative 20 the next two days. The lowest temperature I've pedaled through was minus 2, as seen on my bike computer. I don't mess with the negative wind chills. |
Here is by me...

Winter - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Winter (/ˈwɪntər/) is the coldest season of the year in polar climates and temperate climates, between autumn and spring. Winter is caused by the axis of the Earth in that hemisphere being oriented away from the Sun. Different cultures define different dates as the start of winter, and some use a definition based on weather. When it is winter in the Northern Hemisphere it is summer in the Southern Hemisphere, and vice versa. In many regions, winter is associated with snow and freezing temperatures. |
Wow. Not quite that cold here, but to answer your question: yes.
|
Here, it is supposed to be -5 to 0 wind chill, but +11 for the actual low tonight. It will probably be 15 or so when I ride to work tomorrow. I went out when it was 7 last winter, sooo... yeah, I'll do it.
|
Not nearly that cold here, but I decided to drive today. Below zero is too cold for me and it's windy.
|
Similar forecast to Newtown over here in Lancaster. My poor heat pump has been working overtime this week.
|
Our low temperature is supposed to drop to the low teens on Thursday morning with a wind chill around zero. I haven't decided yet whether to ride to work. My coldest commute so far was about 15 F, so I could possibly set a new record by riding that morning, but the forecasted wind chill is making me think twice. I am most concerned about keeping my hands and feet warm, as they have been borderline uncomfortable on other days that I rode in the teens. I am also concerned about the admittedly slight risk of having to fix a flat in temperatures that cold. Although I seldom get flats, they seem to occur at the most inopportune times.
|
I'm a bit on the fence too. The forecast says a low of 11 tonight/tomorrow morning. Wind advisory goes until 9am. If winds are primarily from the north, I'll probably ride as that means a tailwind most of the way.
My co-workers are probably hoping I will ride so they can comment on my insanity. |
Here it is predicted to be 2 f and 10 mph wind Thursday morning.

FYI - A co2 infiltrator will freeze before filling your tire below about 20f . Put it under your coat for a bit and then do it as fast as you can, this works a little. It still barely fills a tire at that temp.
Also, come on NC people, don't chicken out on me! |
Jeez, I complain when the temps are in the 50's. haha I'm such a wimp.

bigbenaugust I was talking with my wife about riding thursday and friday and she said No way for Thursday plus she reminded me we have a date to a HPU basketball game that night. (Yay Free Tickets) So I am probably just going to go to the gym and run/ lift the rest of the week. |

tarwheel i would be worried about fixing a flat in the cold temps as well. I think it was TSL who said to carry and extra layer if you have to stop.

I rode today in 5 deg. with -10 wind chill and it honestly wasn’t that bad. My commute is only 4 miles and I had no exposed skin. Tomorrow is -5with a -24deg wind chill forecasted for the morning in Chicago. Stillbeats riding the train and watching everyone stare at their cell phones in silence. Ohhhh how I loathe the CTA.
