In Praise of London Bicycle Commuters
I recently returned from a week in London. I have never seen bicycle commuters more talented (or more courageous) than those of London. I tip my bike helmet to you all.

I commuted for a few months in London, to Imperial College from I forget exactly where, just across the river a few miles to the west. I rode a bike I got for like 10 pounds from a police auction (paid 15 for a lot of 2 and sold the bike I didn't want to another guy that was there buying bikes). It was a piece of crap mountain bike, and I just left it in the yard of the place I was subletting when I left.
The riding went fine. I didn't ride in the rain, I took the bus on wet days. Once I got left-hooked, bounced off the passenger door of a VW golf, driver was really apologetic. No harm either way though (me or the car door).
