Trek makes a $16,000 bike. Should we assume you paid $16,000 for your Trek?

Why is the saddle always the first thing to be blamed? The wear could be from scratching yourself down there too much.

I'll take the fact that you didn't address my other points, and that you selected 2 of the most expensive Brooks saddles as evidence of their cost as an admission that you BS'd your other comment.

Anyway: It does look like Brooks prices have gone up since I checked last. They now seem to start at around $115, but you can still get a B-17 or a Team Pro classic on sale for around $90 if you are patient.

When I was in high school and college I wore blue jeans while riding my bike.
The bike had a nice leather saddle. My town was less than 3 miles across and my highest mileage day was 10 miles.
I wore holes into several pair of jeans where they contacted the saddle (and tore up several pair of shoes on the rattraps/toe clips).

I haven't ridden in blue jeans since I got out of college. My blue jeans last several years now.

I rotate through about 4 pair of bike shorts. They generally last a few years or about 1500 miles before abrasion on the saddle edge puts holes in them. I have also patched a few to get a longer lifespan.

With all due respect, you would have to pay me a very, very large sum to convince me to buy anything made from the skin of a sentient being.

If people are not interested in leather saddles for moral reasons, that's perfectly valid as far as I am concerned. Even though it's not my personal morality, I do understand and am sensitive to those concerns.

I'm reading this excellent thread in the comfort of my blue chinos. My Selle Anatomica saddle made from dead animal skin treats my ass/pants very well indeed.

I gave up and started changing at work.
