Cyclocross and Gravelbiking (Recreational) This has to be the most physically intense sport ever invented. It's high speed bicycle racing on a short off road course or riding the off pavement rides on gravel like : "Unbound Gravel". We also have a dedicated Racing forum for the Cyclocross Hard Core Racers.

Gravel rides in Sacramento CA or nearby?

Hey there folks, want to ride some fire roads in the Sacramento area. Any recommendations?

Not interested in singletrack or riding the American river levees.

Thanks!

Kinetic Cycles does a gravel ride every saturday morning. Some of it is levee-based, but looking at their rides on Strava I think they go other places as well. There are fire roads that link together and run through the singletrack at Salmon Falls and Cronan Ranch, but I'm not sure if you can directly access them w/o traversing some singletrack

You also might want to post this in the NorCal regional forum.

The Bike Biz has some gravel rides too. Mostly farm roads, I think. "Dirt Church"

Lots of possibilities out there.

I used to ride with Dirt Church a lot, and aside from levee roads, a lot of the dirt roads you see around the valley are private property (we've been stopped on more than one occasion and asked to turn around). There are some rideable dirt roads as you inch up the foothills, but you have to spend some time mapping out those routes as well.

Did you find or route any? Im in Sacramento and looking for rides on my cyclocross bike, nothing too crazy, but just to get out. I've been out to Hidden Falls to ride their trails, but you share with horses, people and dogs, so not safe unless in the middle of the week.

There's some dirt fire roads along 50 near El Dorado Hills, and there are some out near Jackson as well. Again though, a lot of it is private property. There are some pump house access roads in Yolo County as well.
