Tyre pressure

What pressure do you choose from Gravel King sk in a diverge ? I have the 38 mm in my bike with inner tubes.

I'm running them with tubes at 45-50 psi.

Do you think you'd get anything wider than 38's on there or is that pretty much maxed out do you think??

You can fit a 40 mm but it will be on the limit. This is the Aluminium Version. In the carbon fiber for sure you can go with 42 mm.

TRP Spyre brakes always seem weak before they are bedded in. Make about 20 hard "almost" stops starting with moderate speed and working up to higher speeds. Best not to let the wheels completely stop during these brake applications. After this you should find that the brakes are quite strong.

Just joined the Diverge club as I picked up a 2018 E5 Comp. It's really a replacement for my old (2010) Kona Jake the Snake, which I've realized is a bit too small for me and I got tired of dealing with the poor canti brakes when riding in the rain.

So far I'm really loving the ride and versatility. I know the Aluminum frames don't have as much tire clearance as the Carbon frames, but it's good enough for me (and easily matches my old Kona).

I'd post pics, but the latest forum software update seems to be blocking my ability to do so. Maybe later...

I just upgraded my E5 Comp to hydraulic shifters/brakes (take offs from my Ruby) and it was 1000% worth it. Stops on a DIME. Tektro rotors squeal really loud, I'm hoping they'll quiet down as they break in. Or I might replace them. If you're considering upgrading to hydraulics, I'd highly recommend it.

how complicated was the upgrade? I’m actually pretty happy with the Spyres now that they have bedded in, but an upgrade to hydraulics could be an appealing option down the road.

For me, it was really easy. All I had to do was hand over the bag containing the shifters, brakes, and housing/cables (which I had to order separately) to the guys at the LBS. They said they had a blast working on it, something different to do. I had negotiated a discount on the upgrade labor when I bought the bike - the manager threw in the discount to convince me to buy the bike knowing that I didn't like the stock brakes. Although I didn't like the way the RS505 shifters looked on the Ruby (too bulky and knobby), I think they look pretty good on the Diverge. The stopping power is greatly improved - the stock mechanical brakes were no better than rim brakes.

Thanks!

If I ever do the upgrade I’ll probably more or less follow your plan and get my LBS to do it.

Right now I’m pretty happy with the mech disc brakes. The fact is, the Diverge is a replacement for an old Kona cross bike which had horrible cantilever brakes. Believe me, the brakes on the Diverge are a revelation compared to those old things!

I did a similar upgrade through my LBS. I wanted the Diverge in a carbon frame and wanted to level up to Ultegra so instead of getting the Carbon Comp I bought a Sport model and made a deal with the LBS to install the Ultegra components no charge and use the lower end brakes/shifters/derailleurs to add the Seat post and bars from a Sequoia. All I need now is a better set of multi-purpose 700c wheels or a lighter 700c Road set and a 650b Gravel set.

hi all,

30 yo male here, 6'0 / 183cm tall, 32.5" / 82.5cm inseam. regular proportions (as in, not particularly long torso or legs). looking for a commuter bike, mostly for short and snappy rides along paths, both finished and gravel

test rode the new specialized diverge (alloy - E5 comp) some time ago in 54cm (only size at shop) and felt good but well small. tried a roubaix in 56cm (was told similar geometry) and felt much better size-wise

managed to hunt down a size 58cm today and gave it a quick spin (unfortunately couldn't ride the 56 side by side). interestingly enough, despite being 6' tall, both guys at the specialized shop eyeballed me as a 56. given they only had a 58 in stock, can't knock them for their honesty !

that aside, the 58 definitely didn't feel 'too big' as i was expecting.. the cockpit felt good but i did feel markedly more upright. certainly more than i'm used to. not sure how i feel about this. i'm no expert but i believe the geometry of the diverge is already quite relaxed (by road standards at least) so wondering if the larger size doesn't mean i'm a little tooupright

i am leaning towards the 56 but the OCD in me doesn't like the fact that for my height, i'm on the very outer range for this size

what are my 6'0 brothers (give or take) riding? any advice is appreciated. cheers

I'm feeling like my 56cm is a little short in the reach and so I'll try out a 100mm stem. My other road bike is a 57cm LeMond Zurich and that bike fits like a glove. I'm wondering how the 56cm would work out for your 6'0" frame. I'm loving the new bike though. I'm 5'10" on a good day and this frame aside from the reach is darn close to perfect. And yes it is more upright, but it still cruises rather well and I think that I've aged into this geometry so I'm good with that.

Stock stem on the 54cm and 56cm Diverges are 100mm.

Sorry, my bad, yes it is a 100mm and I'll try a 110mm.

hiya phased. I have a 56, and at 5'9, it fits me like a glove. I have stubby arms and a longer torso so obviously not identical to you.
if you check the 56 and 58 geometry, the stack jumps 26mm from 56 to 58, but the reach only goes up by 6, so it probably will feel notably more upright

Anybody mounted a rear rack on Comp E5 model? Dont tell me you have to fasten the rack to the seat clamp? isnt this horrible design and much less stable and secure?

I've got an Axiom Journey attached to the back of my E5 Comp. Yes it attaches at the seat post clamp. No, I don't find it unstable, inconvenient or insecure in any way to be honest.

That picture of the sea is nice. But do you have the picture of the seat clamp and is it different than standard?

At the moment, no - but I’ll attempt to take a photo over the next day or so and will post a closer image when done
