Oklahoma Land Run 100
Did any other brave souls besides myself attempt this event on the 14th? If so, I would love for you to share your experience.
As for me ...
I had been looking forward to this event since the middle of November. The weather forecast for the event was improving everyday and things were shaping up for a great weekend. Then on Friday night the rain started and must have remained stationary over a portion of the course for a long time because at aproximately the 10 mile mark we ran into the Oklahoma mud. We literally had to walk up and down hills in ankle deep mud for 2 to 3 miles, broken chains and derailers was not uncommon. The majority of the 570 riders did not complete the course, as for me after 2.5 hours we were just 13 miles in when we decided it was futile to continue and rode back (the ride back was on pavement and our total ride was 30 miles). The strongest rider on our team and the overall winner last year completed the first 55 miles of the ride in 4:45 and did finish the race (not sure of the final time).
Even though it was a washout, the event was well organized and I will go back next year. I would encourage all of you in the midwest to consider this event in 2016.

Wow, I was thinking about doing this but I'm glad I didn't! Sounds pretty crazy - and possibly a good fatbike course.
Will have to plan for it next year - we had so much snow in MO in February that I was unable to get in any real training miles to support a 100-mile ride. Ice-covered backroads are not conducive to riding.

Being an OSU alum, I had planned to run this race this year -- primarily as a warm up for the DK200. A death in the family kept me from doing the Land Run this year. Sorry I missed it. Sounds like a real adventure.
But the DK200 is just 72 days away!

Well I attemted it and at mile 19 my rear der deleted a few spokes and my day was done. Never carried my bike so much in my llife! Great event and the folks at District are top notch. Tough day in and out of the saddle for me.
