Baltimore. This SUnday put on by Chesapeake WHeelmen. All I know about it came from a forwarded e-mail.

Baltimore Cross Practice
>
> When: Sunday Sept 2nd, 8:30 AM
>
> Where: the rolling fields at Hillen Rd and Argonne Dr (north of Lake
> Montebello, south of Morgan State U.).

> What to expect: starts, off camber horseshoe turn, natural run or
> ride up (and down), water feature, barriers.
>
>
> Afterwards meet at Red Canoe for coffee, in-store made baked goods,
> and talk about how well we are riding.
> Red Canoes is at 4337 Harford Road (just north of Argonne Dr on

Sweet, finally got the information on the Triangle NC area 'cross practice series:

The popular five week cyclocross training series is back again for 2007!

* The goal of the series is to give area riders a natural progression into the cyclocross season so they begin the race season fully prepared and adapted to the dismounts and rhythm unique to cross.
* The earlier workouts are easier and less difficult, with more focus on form and technique. Workouts will progress to shorter and more intense interval sessions as the 5-week series progresses.
* Interval distances will range from 3-10 min. Riders assess themselves a staggered start for each interval based on their estimated abilities.
* 10-15 minutes of form and technique instruction will be provided for new riders by experienced riders before the workout starts at the first two sessions.
* After the training ride, during the first 2 to 3 weeks, some of the more experienced cross riders will stick around to help and answer any questions for those new to cyclocross.
* Charlie Pendry and Rob Moran will lead the workouts.

Location: Brooks Park just west of Cary

* From I-40 take exit 287/Harrison Ave.; Head south towards Cary; Approx. 2.3 miles, right on Maynard Rd.; Approx. 2.3 miles, right on High House Rd.; Approx. 2.7 miles, cross NC 55; Approx. 1.4 miles, right on Green Level church Rd.; Approx 1 mile, look for Brooks Park on your right. We will meet ready to ride at 6:00 pm and ride five minutes to Highcroft Drive Elementary School where we will begin our workout.

Dates:
Tuesday, September 18
Tuesday, September 25
Tuesday, October 2
Tuesday, October 9

Toronto, Ontario

Thursday nights @ 6:30pm

Take the Lakeshore bike path west to the white suspension bridge (past the Ex). At the bridge, take the path north, under the highway and to the sewage treatment plant. Just past the large brick wall, the path leads left to an area with hills, paths, etc. This is the information I picked up tonight by one of the organizers. Apparently it's been going on for years and there's a great practice course setup on site.

Louisville, KY: There's a pretty well organized practice out at the old RRCC (the U.S.Grand Prix course at the corner of Zorn and River Roads) on Wednesdays. Since the time change, I believe they meet at 4:30 and go until dark. I would imagine it will go at least until "Storm the Greens" on Dec. 2.

thanks dc.cyclocross. i sent a note to gwadzilla trying to reserve a spot, but haven't heard back. should i be waiting for some email blast?

in other dc cross news, the bike rack will be holding a practice/skills clinic next Tuesday, August 26 starting at 6pm. if you can't make it by six that's fine, a lot of guys will be showing up late. the park is small so you'll see us when you get there.

we'll meet at the northwest corner of langdon park in northeast

we'll first go over the basics: mounting, dismounting, carrying, handling. we'll then do some laps around the park putting those skills to use.

cross bike isn't necessary, but in order to practice mounts and dismounts a freewheel is a good idea.

this practice will also be free, although not as expertly put together as the above clinics i'm sure. let me know if you have any questions, and I'll see you there.

Same as last year's NC practices:

The popular five week cyclo-cross training series is back again for 2008! Held in a location that is easily accessible to everyone in the Triangle, the series is a great way to hone your skills before the start of the NC Cyclo-cross series:

The goal of the series is to give area riders a natural progression into the cyclo-cross season so they begin the race season fully prepared and adapted to the dismounts and rhythm unique to cross. The earlier workouts are easier and less difficult, with more focus on form and technique. Workouts will progress to shorter and more intense interval sessions as the 5-week series progresses. Interval distances will range from 3-10 min. Riders assess themselves a staggered start for each interval based on their estimated abilities. 10-15 minutes of form and technique instruction will be provided for new riders by experienced riders before the workout starts at the first two sessions.

After the training ride, during the first 2 to 3 weeks, some of the more experienced cross riders will stick around to help and answer any questions for those new to cyclo-cross. Charlie Pendry and Matt Rotroff will lead the workouts.
Location: Thomas Brooks Park--just west of Cary

From Interstate 40: Take Exit 278 (Highway 55 exit). Travel towards Apex. Travel approximately 7.5 miles and make a right on Green Hope School Road at the stop light. Approximately 1.8 miles, make a left onto Green Level Church Road. Approximately 2 miles, make a left into Thomas Brooks Park.
From Highway 64: Take the Highway 55 exit. Travel towards Durham. Travel approximately 3.7 miles and make a left on Green Hope School Road at the stop light. Approximately 1.8 miles, make a left onto Green Level Church Road. Approximately .2 miles, make a left in Thomas Brooks Park.
We will meet ready to ride in the parking lot closest to Green Level Church Rd. at 6:00 pm and ride five minutes to Highcroft Drive Elementary School where we will begin our workout.

Word is that Civic Field will be this season's practice location. More details as they come.

EDIT: New details! Dropped by Fanatik Bikes today (grabbing stuff to build wheels for the bike I'll be ordering soon...) and saw a flier for cross practices!

And here I thought this was my own little secret cx park. I'm out there many early weekend mornings practicing skills and riding the hills. It's about three blocks from my house. Give a shout next time you guys head out this way.
