Going North from Markham?

Starting off in Markham, around Mccowan + 7. If i'm going North, i ride through the subdivisions up to major mac + mccowan. i don't like the high traffic roads that are found closer to 7. i'm comfortable riding major mac, though!

Went up to Newmarket and back the other day, riding mostly up Mccowan. I found out, though, that Mccowan really starts to suck North of Bloomington for a few km. All broken road + potholes and whatnot.

What route can i take to get up to Vivian Road without riding over the broken stuff? I don't want high traffic. I fear 48 + 9th would be high-traffic. Is Kennedy good?

Thanks!

Along McCowan headed north take 19th and head west to Kennedy or Warden then head north from either. Both are better paved than McCowan after Bloomington. You could also take Bethesda to head to Warden or Kennedy. Both Warden and Kennedy pass through Vivian. Warden and Kennedy don't have too much traffic after Major Mac or Elgin Mills. Do not take 48th (Markham Road), it is a highway and has lots of traffic.

9th is fine although it will take you only up to Aurora Rd (after you complete a half circle of Musselman's lake). You could head West along Aurora to either Warden or Kennedy although there is a higher volume of traffic along Aurora compared to 19th or Bethesda... good workout though climbing up to Musselman's along 9th.

EDIT: from McCowan, head West to Kennedy or Warden...
