Montebello to Wakefield

Some friends and I are looking for a safe bike route from Montebello to Wakefield. We ride road bikes. Our brief reconnaissance shows too much highway driving. any suggestions would help!

We are also planning a day ride at Wakefield about 100k+/-. We have some ideas but if anyone knows the area?

Thanks

In 1986 I rode from Montreal to Ottawa via Montebello with my son. We followed the main road, which didnt have a paved shoulder. The traffic wasnt too heavy and didnt give us any grief, although there were a few big lumber trucks. We camped for the night at Plaisance park.
