5 mile ride; including Clock Hill; all the way to top non stop. Clock hill is the 2nd highest point in Otesgo county. Checked motor at top;it was warm but not hot (I could leave my hand on it). And still very good workout for 63 year old dude with fairly bad arthritis!

I doubt you will need your smaller cogs if you are just riding on the street----unless like me you ride a lot without the power assist.
I bought both the 30t and the 42 tooth aluminum chainrings. If I was only riding on the street I would buy the 52? or 48T aluminum chainring. The 30t is worthless for on the street---30/11 is so low I couldn't comfortably pedal over about 14 mph.

This is very cool. I put a Luna kit on my Surly Cross Check about a year ago and it's been mostly wonderful. Anything that's not been wonderful has been because of motor torque on a frame with straight rear dropouts and some give in the wheels and frame.
My plan is to get a bike very similar to yours and turn the Surly back into an urban bike/tour-er.
Good work, dude!

Thing is, when I would use my chain tool, the links were always sticky when I pushed them back together. I'd have to push the parts back and forth til they would be loose enough to not suck on the sprockets. I asked about that in the repair forum here, and the experts there told me to use master links. A couple of bucks at the bike shop for one, or $1 plus a six week wait on ebay from China.

Or, just use the one that comes with the KMC chain. I've never ordered any separately.
