BionX shut down on bumps
Here's a BionX heads up that took me a season of riding to figure out...
I had a recurring problem with my D-500 motor cutting off on bumpy roads. The console would go dark after a bump for just a short moment and then come back on at zero assist. Occasionally there would be an error code. I Googled the issue and found that several other riders have reported the same shut down. My dealer suspected a faulty cable connector. He replaced the battery docking station which included all new cables. That did not fix it.
I finally discovered that the G2 console was jiggling ever so slightly in its mounting dock even when clicked in completely, briefly breaking electrical contact after sharp bumps on an unsuspended touring bike. Probably not likely to happen if you have the newer RC3/DS3 console or front suspension on your bike. The older G2 console works better on my drop bar bike as I can operate controls at the center console with my thumb and I don't have to McGiver on the optional remote throttle control which is designed for flat bars. Cross top brake levers are nearby for safety. The grip located control is mandatory with the RC3/DS3.
Here's my fix, two wire ties have ended the shut downs. Partially blocks the screen but I can see what I need to see...

I had that happen once when I went over a pretty good sized bump on the MUP (I go over it on every commute - no way around it.) When the console came back on in about 5 seconds, it showed that my battery had gone from about 60 percent to about 10 percent?? Anyway, that motor has since been replaced under warranty (not for the reason we are discussing) and it has never happened again.

I had a lot of error codes which my dealer said were random due to power interruptions. Everything from check the connections to replace the battery to replace the motor to replace the console. He said to ignore them it was just a power interruption sending meaningless codes. Although he didn't nail the problem in a 30 minute inspection he did narrow it down. The computer said motor and battery were fine. I wasn't about to leave my bike there so he could ride it around for a week to diagnose an intermittent problem. Hats off to him as he pointed me in the right direction. All I know is that snugging the console with wire ties fixed it!
