I made a quick video to illustrate. I'm continuing to tune this bike in. I think upgraded rear shocks may be in my future.

Z-bars are narrow, to accommodate fairing. Mudflap = anything that works. Typically, my fenders have holes drilled for attaching the leather flap. I cut my own using thin leather, commercial products available.
Easily replaced flaps and can be color coordinated.

That leather DOES look very thin; seems like it would bend over backwards going faster than 10 mph and become useless. No?

No. Space your holes further, leather bends somewhat to curvature of fender. Zip ties? = I replace many of them after a winter of mud splatter. Black zips on black fenders.
Rear flap, does not show in pic. Respect the wheel suckers, for you may become one too.
edit: for a more permanent or fashionable look, go commercial or just 'go with the flow'.

I like the idea, but I'm going to keep my eye out for rubber that is a bit thicker and will hold its shape a bit better.
Last time I was in China, the illegal motorcycle taxis all had these homebrew mud flaps on the knock-off CB125s. They were very thick rubber; I'm sure cut out of sheet material or old tire sidewalls with a shears. It was important not to splash or dity-up the customer on wet days.
Thanks for sharing that.
