Mountain Bike

I am looking to buy a used full-suspension mountain bike for the 1000 Watt Cylcone kit I have ordered. Plan to do some trial riding. Any recommendations in the $200 to $400 price range used?
Thanks,

Carls Bad Carl

I don't think anyone is answering you because it looks like you have it covered.

You could get just about anything at Wally world or many bicycle shops. I'm looking at an $800 Giant downhill with Dropoff forks at a pawnshop for my next 40mph bike build. I'm tired of rough riding cheap bikes, I want to drop off curbs man!

Sounds like you want to find a higher quality FS bike in used condition. You might wait a long time to find one.

For a big box store bike, check out the Schwinn S-25 at Target, ~$245. I love mine. MAKE SURE you find one with the Shimano trigger shifters and NOT the SRAM triggers. The Shimanos work perfectly, the SRAMS "feel" like plastic and I have read a few accounts of the ratchet gearing inside them losing teeth. I personally broke two sets of the SRAMS on the store floor testing them out. As of July 2009, the S-25s appear to have the Shimanos. (technically the Schwinn's are all Pacific cycles made bikes, but this particular bike is NOT junk.)

Otherwise, for a bit more, an entry level Trek or Giant would be best... full suspension, I don't know.

Used you'll be hit or miss for one that isn't beat to hell. Stay away from a Next or Mongoose (same bike from Pacific and heavy as hell)

Are you saying that you want to go stump jumping with a motor on the bike or do you mean groomed rail-trails?

A great source for used mountain bikes is Craigslist Just save the RSS search for "Full Suspension Bike".

You'll get tons of hits if you live in a metropolitan area.

Thanks for the response. You reinforced my current thinking that I need a quality bike so that it will hold up. Which model of Giant are you looking at. I assume the $800 is the used price. What are drop off forks? Any other brands & models you might suggest?

Thanks,

Carlsbad Carl

Stay away from wallmart bikes, they, and 90% of bikes found on craigslist are total crap. For a good source of decent to exceptional quality bikes designed for real mountain bikeing have a look at pinkbike.com.
