ebay Batteries

Hi All:

I'm planning a Crystallite 36V - 1000W setup. ebay has been featuring a bunch of 36V/48V 15AH/20AH Li-Ion packs

for very reasonable prices...excluding the shipping costs ($115/$147).

Has anybody tried these packs out? It looks like a lot of people are bidding on them.

I personally would buy LIPO batteries before I'd buy a Vpower or any ebay generic battery. This guy, Lester over on endless-sphere forum says that he likes them but he's running a business too so I don't know how good his word is. It looks like a duct taped lifepo4 pack and those have been known to catch fire sometimes mainly because of the duct tape. I don't think you can get a good 48v20AH lifepo4 pack for less than about $360. To determine what battery you can get, you need to know the amperage draw of the controller that you are using. If it's 20 amp controller then you can use almost any lifepo4 but if it's a 35 amp then it narrows it down a bit.

Here is Lester...he's the 2nd poster on this thread...he owns a business, though so he'll probably try to sell you something if you contact him. https://endless-sphere.com/forums/vie...hp?f=3&t=18891

I'm using 36v20AH Thundersky pack that I got from elitepowersolutions.com . You'll need a BMS, though for it so you don't ruin it. You can get two celllog 8s monitors from hobbyking.com for $15 a piece though and it will do what you need. The thundersky's are much safer because they have vents at the top of the cells in case they overheat. They are kind of bulky, though. They are still half of the weight of SLA batteries but they come in individual cells so there is more plastic that takes up space. I'm pretty happy with mine. Been running mine since late January.

You can also buy a BMS from hightekbikes.com if you want to go that route. There is a thread on here called "Looking for battery recommendations" that lays out the method that I use to charge them. (the thundersky pack). It's a cheap way of doing it but it works for me. Do some research, though. There are a lot of options now when it comes to batteries. LIPO is an option but those can be dangerous and they can catch fire sometimes.
