Electric xtracycle setup question
hey guys,
I'm a looking to setup my xtracycle with a electronic drivetrain. I want to be able to shift. I will carry heavy loads (two small kids plus perhaps groceries). I live in a flat valley and would like to be able to get out for 25-30 miles at a time between charges ideally.
Does this system seem like it will meet those needs?
Rear 48v 1000w 26" Wheel Electric Bicycle Motor Kit Cycling Conversion E-Bike
https://www.ebay.com/itm/Rear-48v-100...item3cccf6551f
plus this battery:
48V 20A 1000W Motor E - Bike Bicycle Scooter Lithium Battery and Charger
https://www.ebay.com/itm/120979134048...84.m1423.l2649
I just wanted to do a gut check before I placed my order. Seems like 1000w should be good for this application, but do you think the battery life would suffer too much? I would plan on pretty much always pedaling and basically using the system as an assist. In other words I wouldnt really run it in straight scooter mode very much.
Would it be better to go with that batter but maybe a less powerful motor like a 800w or 500w system?
Thoughts would be greatly appreciated by the experts.
Thanks!

The Stoke Monkey is a way to drive the Crankset from the left side,
and so use the whole drive train range , of ratios.
with a motor out of the wheel, into the hole left in the rear triangle,
from the long tail conversion.
Its Patented.. apparently the jump from cottage project to full production is a bumpy road,
as they are not able to supply their customers Now.

"It's been a year since CleverCycles discontinued the Stokemonkey drive for longtail bikes due to sourcing complications. We've been working behind the scenes with them to bring about a next generation Stokemonkey and are glad to announce a new mid-drive motor that is smoother, 1kg lighter, and better waterproofed than the original. While there are still some details to sort with the brackets and hardware before the full kit is available again, we do have some motors with cosmetic defects suitable for those doing custom DIY mid-drives. These hubs are already listed on our simulator in two different windings (StokeM08, 09) and fit a single speed freewheel with a bare minimum of axle protrusion. Here is a side view showing key dimensions. Please contact us for details if interested."

Umm, have you all checked ebike.ca's website recently? This is what they had to say about the stokemonkey:

Your conversion kit and battery choice seems to be pretty well matched in regard to the continuous motor draw and battery discharge current ratings (if the battery specification isn't over-hyped too much). The controller on that particular kit should be limited to a max of about 22 amps imo.
The performance you're looking for probably isn't too far off from what you might get from the kit/battery (again, if you can trust the battery specs). That you plan to "always be pedaling" will do much in this regard (I too, always pedal my e-bikes unless I'm costing or braking).
The conversion kit show in your link is probably manufactured by the same company that produced the 36 volt kit I bought from "yescom.com" here in CA (good company, good service, and much cheaper shipping costs btw). This company also sells 1000w systems. These popular entry level conversion kits seem to be OK for the price. However, you should be aware that these kits are often said to require a little more than an "entry level" understanding of bicycle mechanics (in general) and electric e-bike conversion kits (in particular). These kits are sometimes provided with vague installation guides, miss-matched color coded wiring, and improperly polarized lead acid battery chargers. The biggest possible drawback with these, and similarly priced kits, are the controllers (better quality replacement controllers start at about $80 USD). Also note that you may need to lengthen the conversion kit wiring in order to mount a rear wheel system (a front wheel drive system might be a better option in your case).
I can't comment about the battery show in your link. However, I suggest that you seriously consider doing business with companies based in the US or Canada (dealing with warranty claims from off-shore companies can be very difficult and/or expensive shipping wise (if your required to "send it back" for any reason).

thanks for the feedback. However, yescom.com is not what I was expecting. Are you sure you typed that correctly?

Sorry, try "yescomUSA" and then click on the "bicycle engines" section. Yescom changed their name to yescomUSA (same company, slightly different name). This online company also has a phone number that you can use to place an order, or ask any questions that you might have.
YescomUSA is not an "e-bike" dedicated retail out fit. However, they are much more "accessible" than most, if not all, distant foreign retailers. Again, dealing with e-bike kit and/or battery warranty problems with distant foreign retailers can be a nightmare (this is particularly true with batteries due to the their somewhat "temperamental" nature).
Btw, I'm not trying to "push" any particular e-bike retailer. I've made purchases from E-bikekit, Gocarlite, and yescomUSA. All have given me very good customer service. E-bike.ca or Canada also has a very good reputation. There is also an e-bike retail shop based in, or very near, SJ iirc.
