Rain Rain Rain

I am in the process of doing my first ebike build in the North West, so it is kind of an understatement that we get some rain around here. I just was wondering if anyone had any suggestions as far as weather resistance of electric motors. I don't plan on doing anything off road with this bike but I will have a 19 mile commute over the west hills of Portland. Any guidance or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

When you go on Endless Sphere forums you can read tens of posts about weatherproofing of hub motors.
Everything from painting rotors, applying tons of silicone , etc.
The thing is that good quality ebike motors do not need any weatherproofing, cheap ones run-off the mill of course need.

here is the example of USA-designed and manufactured brushless direct drive motor after 25,000 km , just before reaching 26,000 km. Bike is used in harsh Canadian winter, day after day, winter after winter, in snow, salt, cold rain , minus 10C temperatures.
I added silicone on the wires, no need for it.

Thanks for your reply, I agree that something that is made well shouldn't need to be waterproofed further. If you don't mind me asking what brand do you have on your kit? I have been reading through endless sphere but yet to join or post anything yet, thanks for the suggestion.

Tidal Force is not manufactured anymore , cheap China ebikes killed it. Familiar to you?
The design labs in Washington which designed TF carried on after TF bankruptcy and designed all new ebike drive FALCO.
FALCO is 5-phase, DD brushless edrive with controller inside motor, made in India -home country of leading engineer Rakhes /they had to move production from USA -cannot compete with China labour/
FALCO is manufactured with Western manufacturing procedures in place including QC procedure.
From tons of investigations I did I know that most of China/brand/ motors are made in horrible conditions with little or no
QC procedures.
Buying it is a hit and miss.
What other ebike manufacturer would offer 5-year warranty/!!!!/ only FALCO.

Bikes: 27 speed ORYX with over 39,000Kms on it and another 14,000KMs with a BionX E-Assist on it

BionX has extended some warranty too?... At least I Got a brand new wheel and hub from them after 3 1/2 years, so they do stand behind their product...

Ask the question on ES; there are plenty of posters from the UK where they get a little rain too. I've read a lot of posts where their products functioned adequately in harsh conditions.

in my BIONX manual page 25 there is all info about BIONX warranty and it says:
"the Bionx covers a two/2/ year period for all parts of the Bionx propulsion system...."
read all 2 pages abot warranty no mention of any 5 years.
so 2 years here in Canada in 2014. You are in Canada also but you bought how many years ago, maybe it was 5 years???
The sent you wheel free of charge??? after 0ver 3 years

that exceptional

I guess I shouldn't have said 5 years because I don't actually know how long the warranty was extended for, the dealer here just said BionX covered my wheel and motor even tho it was 3 1/2 years instead of the 2 years...

EDIT; I guess it's the "impression" I got from my LBS that BionX is going to be trying to "match" FALCOS 5 year warranty... Maybe not, JMO as they did fix my problem past my warranty expired date...
