I carried either two or three. I don't remember. They weren't heavy, so that wasn't a problem. It was a three-month tour. I got a lot of flats, though. I went into a bike shop in Dublin, Ireland and told them of my problem. The owner said I was riding tires that were too light. He sold me a couple of heavy tubulars, which solved the problem. Anyway, tubulars have questionable value to me in just about any situation, and they are super dumb for touring.
