I run a cygolite hot shot set to irregular flashing mode. This, so that I get the attention of cars from a distance.
I also have a couple of spots where I wrapped some very reflective tape, this so that drivers can draw an accurate bead on me
as they get closer. I ride at night often and have given this a great deal of thought. From the comparisons I have made with other
cyclists, my method seems to make me highly visible and avoidable.
Of course this assumes that the driver is not drunk, texting, smoking crack, asleep, or just doesn't give a rats ass.
But I can only control what I can control.
