not to highjack this thread, but since it is about lights at night has anybody used these: Mobo LED Light Up Aluminum Pedals - Overstock Shopping - Great Deals on Bike Parts & Accessories

The pedal light you linked to has a 1/2" pedal thread. I don't know any bike crank that takes that size.
And yes, please keep on topic.

This was posted in another thread on another subject, so I split it out
my lbs had some pedals with a generator built in and lights. I really thought about buying them, except they were crummy pedals, so I wasn't sure how long they would last. 1/2" works on one-piece cranks

I once put a trouser band around my ankle and clipped a tail light to it. It got attention. There are lit ankle bands available, perhaps from Jog-A-Lite. I think these would be a better bet.

I think a combination of lights and reflective stuff is ideal. An Australian study show that reflective material at the ankles and knees is very helpful. I've been meaning to use some more of that iron-on stuff. It's very good. I'll put it on my shoes and maybe some of my pants. It doesn't have to look conspicuously stupid. I see joggers wearing reflective clothing, and it seems intelligent to me.
