Bike Computer - HR, Cadence, etc.
Hi all,
Looking to get a bike computer and looking for advice.
I want it to have a heart rate monitor, cadence, speed. etc.
Ant+ and Bluetooth to pair to my smart phone would be amazing but dont want too expensive. Looking for all recommendations and suggestions.
Current thoughts are:
* Sigma Rox 5 (no ANT+ or Bluetooth but great price for all sensors - $120 AUD)
* Sigma Rox 6 (no ANT+ or Bluetooth but great price for all sensors - $181 AUD)
* Sigma Rox 10 (No bluetooth sync but pretty good price for all sensors - $230 AUD)
* Cateye Strada Digital Wireless With Speed/Cadance/HR (No ANT+ or bluetooth but great price for all sensors (comparable with the Rox 5/6 - $110)
* Garmin Edge 25 (More expensive and doesn't include sensors - apx $300 AUD if I wanted sensors too)
I usually have my smart phone with me with Endomondo running so have that for GPS and navigation.
I'd ideally love to just be able to tie all this into my phone but from what I saw online it doesn't appear my phone (LG G4) supports ANT+.
Open to creative and smart ideas of how to do this.
Currently I am thinking Sigma Rox 5 purely as it gives me most things I'd want for a great price. The only thing I'd miss with it is ANT+ so I cant upgrade it with additional sensors easily

I've just discovered the Wahoo RFLKT+ and the Cateye Pandrone Smart+.
The Cateye Smart+ especially sounds very interesting as it gives you the best of Cycle computer AND smart phone sync'd. The only issue I see is that it doesn't come with the sensors and so I'd have to purchase a cadence and HR sensor separately. It does however seem like it gives me the best options for futureproofing it and adding new features.
Are there any other similar options from other brands? I dont even know what I'd search for to find them.

sigma Rox 10.0 is on my 'to buy' list ... I should get on at the end of next month. I'm only interested in the speed, cadence and GPS route directions for now, but with the Rox 10.0 I will be able to connect a powermeter and heart rate monitor etc at a later date

As for similar computers on the market, the only other one that I am familiar with is the Topeak Panobike computer. It is very similar to the Padrone in how it works but again, it only works with it's proprietary phone app. And like the Padrone, if you always have your phone with you, the standalone computer feature is almost a moot point.
The cycling computer market is starting to change for the better and with the new features of smartphones, so are there new features of cycling products that are smartphone compatible. I think the developers of the cycling apps realize this and are adding more and more features to their apps to accommodate the new BT compatible hardware so that you don't need to have multiple apps on your phone in order to use them. Just my 2¢ worth.

Thanks for the reply.
I have Android not iPhone so from what I've been reading, the RFLKT+ wont work with the ANT+ sensors? (Makes no sense to me as the device should be what's pairing with the sensors and then my phone just connects to it and gets passed all the information over bluetooth?)
The Topeak Panobike computer again looks and sounds interesting and is a great price. Again though, lots of negative and bad reviews about it?
I dont get why these companies are making what is obviously the up and coming tech for cycling computers and then just not finishing/fixing the software to make them work properly?? It seems like they've seen the boat sailing, jumped on it and then kind of still holding onto the shore and refusing to let go??
Unfortunately my phone doesn't support ANT+ although from what I've been reading several (Galaxy S7, etc) do.
I've been testing it however and my phone can connect to multiple bluetooth connections at one time so I could have all the sensors with bluetooth on them to give my phone the data. The only issue is that I wont really be able to easily see it as I ride.
I have seen some sensors that are ANT+ AND Bluetooth enabled so I could have an ANT+ cycle computer that connects to the same HR monitor as my phone is also connecting to. My phone will get the data to add to Endomondo so I can get statistical info and then I'll see it real time on the ANT+ computer.
HR is the main one I want added to Endomondo, the rest the phone can pick up for itself (except Cadence which I'm not as fussed about and am fine just seeing on cycle computer).

I only get a few hours out of my Samsung Galaxy S5 running the ridewithgps app even if I have it in a jersey pocket with the screen turned off. Before I switched to a dynamo setup for long rides I was able to get 12 hours out of my Edge 500 with 40% battery left at the end. Unfortunately, that's still not enough to use my phone as a bike computer - outside of ultra low power mode where the phone doesn't run apps it's barely enough to keep the phone charged with the screen off, and it bounces in and out of charge mode depending on speed.
ANT+ software support is also a problem with my phone. While the hardware supports it, ridewithgps won't talk to ANT+ sensors and updating my power meter to bluetooth would be a $500 change.

Unless you ride reasonable distances.

Just as an FYI guys, it depends a lot what Android phone you have and if you 'tweak' the settings before you take off on a ride.
If you turn off WiFi, Auto-Sync and switch your data from 4G to 3G you should get plenty of time from an Android phone (presuming it hasn't got an older, worn out battery in it). I Was out for 5hrs over the weekend with my LG G4 and even with the connection left on 4G I had absolutely no issues with the battery lasting.
Then again, the fact I can keep a spare battery in a back pocket is always a comforting reassurance in case I should get close to running out.
I had pretty much decided I was going to get the Polar M450 and now I've just discovered gpx files and the concept of loading pre-saved routes to follow them. This sounds like an amazing idea to help me discover and do longer rides out and about in Melbourne.
Which devices are actually capable of excepting these pre-saved routes and giving me navigation back as part of the info on the display? (Cheapest options available please!).
Thanks
