Lost my Garmin 520. Replacement?

I lost my Garmin 520. Looking to replace it with something or nothing. I used it for 6-7 months and roughly 2500 miles. What I learned is that I don't need all the bells and whistles. Cadence was nice just to see, but found I was nicely in the range I needed to be. So don't need that. I never got the HR to work, but I'm not a racer (more of a tourer), so that's not needed. Maps were too small, so no good for me. So really, after all is said and done, what I pay attention to is miles traveled, mph, trip time, grade and temperature. I can get the first 3 from my iPhone 6 and Mapmyride. Plus, on and offline maps. Maybe even the grade, idk. I am just at a point where I will use the iPhone for all it is worth, or get a scaled down Garmin to fill in the holes. Advice?

I personally use a Garmin E-Trex 30. I like it because it has all the data I need for riding, plus it uses AA batteries (and it has a very nice long battery life too). If you don't need the maps you could go with the cheaper E-Trex 10 model and get the same basic features.

IMO, a dedicated computer is really only useful if you're pairing it with sensors. If you don't need them, get a nice charge cable and external battery for the phone (the Anker 10000mah is great, and pretty small) and be on your way. I don't know how you're mounting your iPhone, but the Delta Smartphone Caddy is superb.

Good advice. I've got a Go-puck, external battery. Probably could have gotten something smaller, but I get good 2-3 charges from it. The mount is what I need. I've been using one that is rain proof (zippered with clear plastic over) that is velcroed to the aero bars. Not real happy with it because of touch screen and overheating issues. I looked at the Delta Smartphone Caddy, but looks like it is too small for my iPhone 6s plus. Found the Delta Cycle Hefty Holder on Amazon. Don't know how it all compares to your recommendation, but looks like the phone will fit.

I don't think a phone will get close to an accurate % grade while you ride but if you want to look at the data later it should be fine.

If your phone does ANT+ a Garmin Tempe is pretty cheap and will let you record the ambient temperature.

Personally, I prefer a GPS watch. It's also useful for hiking, boating, running, etc.

mirrors your phone data and relays to handlebars. Waiting for mine. It was cheap enough to try.

Did you get another bike computer or use your phone now?

Thanks for asking. I should have responded earlier. I got a good deal on the Garmin Edge Touring Plus. I like it better for what I use a Garmin for. And guess what happens when you finally replace a lost Garmin? You guessed it, the lost is found. Two days after I received the new one, by son-in-law (my wife and I were vacationing with our daughter and her hubby when I lost it) called me and said he had found my 520 in his hiking boot. So anybody need a Garmin 520? LOL
