Hmmm....I had previously thought that the numerical listing "400" of the model referred to the lumen output as with previous DiNotte models...BUT...you are right. I found the listed lumen output on the DiNotte site but it's not like they list it in the opening product description. You have to scroll down the page to where they list all the spec's. I didn't see that before. I stand corrected. Matter of fact none of the DiNotte rear lamps are listing the outputs I thought they had. Hate when that crap happens. :notamused: Damn, all this time I thought the numbers on the different rear lamp models were a reference to the output. That said, I wonder now how many other people have thought the same thing. In my opinion this is a type of deceptive marketing by DiNotte.

Regardless, the 400R ( at 240 lm ) should still look brighter but I suppose it's possible if the 400R has a wider dispersal pattern it indeed might not look as bright ( at distance ) as the Cygolite Hotshot 150. Since the HS 150 provides a narrow beam pattern it could very well look brighter at distance...not saying that's true only possible.

They don't seem to be consistent. For instance, the Day Time Red (400+) is rated at 400 lumens.

DAYTIME RED Taillight - 400+ Lumens seat post, seat stay, chain stay or rack mount (Li-ion Endurance Series)

I've used this one for several years, but recently changed to the Quad Red ("only" 200 Lumens) for the lighter weight.

What mount do you use for either tail light on your helmet? I've tried using a cree flashlight front of the helmet, but the weight is quite bothersome. I'd want a much lighter headlight as well. The magic shine clones are an option, but then I'd have to stow the batter in a jersey pocket, and it's likely the sweat would destroy that thing in just a few rides.

I find that if the light is centered at the top of the helmet; it has a good balance and the weight is not too bad.

Thanks for getting back to me. :-)

I've got a cree flashlight mounted on one, and a magic shine clone mounted on the other. Oddly, the 1st helmet does not feel unduly heavy, even though I have a "heavy" flashlight and a niterider30 hooked up back. The weight was VERY noticeable on a previous giro, but not so on the new helmet.

The magic shine is pretty light and the battery pack in jersey pocket has held up over a few rides at least. Problems solved!

I haven't been following this thread, but I'd really suggest including the $19 Blitzu Cyborg 168T. I have a lot of taillights, and once I got that, I made it one of my daily use lights, mounted on the back of my helmet.

The combination of a lot of light, a very wide dispersion pattern and a large lit area make it very conspicuous without being a painful point source of light.

I think it's definitely the taillight to recommend if someone wants a light for < $50.

My only concern is that I have not had it in heavy rain yet. It's seen some water and survived OK.

I did a one hour "moisture test" on the Blitzu Cyborg 168T, Cygolite Hotshot Pro80, Hotshot Micro and Niterider Solas 150 in the last video I posted.

My PDX china light knockoff mysteriously stopped working a week or two ago. I couldn't switch flashes, and it froze with one light on, the other off or flickering.

I disassembled the light, reassembled, still wasn't working. I left it disassembled for a week or two, now I put it back together and it's working perfectly once again.

What more can you expect for a buck? How in the ---- can a chinese seller afford to sell a credible, semi-functional knockoff of a mid tier light for a dollar?

Top to bottom - helmet mounted Niterider Lumina Flare is mine. Knogg Blinder 4, Cateye Rapid X2 and Light & Motion VIS 180 Micro were borrowed. Thanks BFold of New York City.

Note Knogg Binder(under helmet) has no side beam at all. But it's decent head on:
