Free phone calls for a week?
Hello all,
Can anyone direct me to a service online where I can setup temp phone call service? I did see someone's recommendation once but didn't pay attention to it.
I just need something for a day or two. I did have my two phone services overlapping, but the one I'm going to screwed up and I screwed too. The new sim card is suppose to be here tomorrow, but I've been without a card since Monday and things are stacking up here!
Any and all help will be GREATLY appreciated.

Not 100% but doesn't google voice allow you to setup a number through google and make calls via wifi...for that matter, you can make wifi calls directly from your iphone.

I can't help you with a SIM card, but I can give you VOIP service for a couple of days. Does that help? You could use it with a softphone on a computer or tablet and a wifi (or wired ethernet) connection.

Ditto, Google Voice if you have wifi access. I use it with my iPhone 4s, which doesn't even have a data plan. I mostly use it for cycling apps and the camera, but can make phone calls as long as there's wifi access.

Yes as long as you have internet access, you're in the game.
I haven't gotten around to using Skype, but I did use Talkatone after posting up. It's still installed and I tried it just now. I still have the number assigned to me, which is a local number and I can call to it too. It working great, even though it's not needed now.
Looks like WhatsCall is the flavor of the week.
Would be great to see a review on these apps. When I was using Talktone I kept getting a User Survey asking me if I liked the service. I didn't response cause I was thinking they would start asking for a fee for the service I like

Were you able to pick a number for yourself, or how does that work?

Another app that uses VOIP through wifi is WhatsApp. It's available for iPhone and Andriod phones and the app is free. You can also send text messages with it, if you wish.

I don't remember. I think it offered a choice of preset numbers, with some customization.
I mostly use Google Voice from within gmail on the PC, or from the iPhone app, when I need to keep my hands free and have the landline free. We need both.
I have Skype too but rarely use it. Skype is very sluggish and resource intensive compared with Google Voice. And our neighborhood has the slowest DSL in the area, with no faster options available in the foreseeable future.
