thanks JohnJ80 i think my biggest issue was that the Garmin was not charged up all the way. I have ridden with it in at 13F before. Granted it was newer so maybe the battery has declined over the years?!? Either way I will make a point to charge everything before cold rides.

Li-ion loses capacity from cold, aging and number of charge cycles. For example, my phones typically start losing capacity after about 18 months which works out (for me) to be about 500 charge cycles. Li-ion batteries lose significant capacity a 3-4 years just from aging. In your case, you probably had both the aging and the cold working against you.

Are you certain it's not just that auto-power down is enabled? I like the auto-power down function but many don't. With auto-power down enabled, after about 15 minutes with the timer stopped, the device will shut down.

Iride01 yes because i was in the process of a ride. I think it was too cold and the battery was not full. i could have put in my coat to keep it warm or should have topped off the battery before riding.
