Nope, I rarely get buzzed. In heavy city traffic I go as fast as the cars and position myself in the center if the lane to avoid being forced off the road.

In the parts of my commute that aren't in heavy city traffic there is usually room for both a cycle and car.

If you rode in the middle of the lane on the roads I commute on, you would be dead now.

I've been bike commuting for sixteen years now and the last few months are the first time I've felt safe doing my morning commute, because I changed the direction that I point my tail light.

I know your very concerned about the drivers. For me you express no concern, I believe you suggested I was paranoid.

Oh brother.

I'm concerned about all involved. It's not safe for cyclist or driver if either is blinded by bright lights. When one party blinds the other intentionally it down right irresponsible. We don't live in an 'us vs. them' world.

gear 08-17-07 07:38 AM

I don't think I am blinding drivers, I think they are seeing my lights in time to take evasive action, where as before they didn't see my lights in time to change course. At 40 MPH they are only getting a brief straight on shot at my LED light and LEDs are easier to see straight on than at an angle.

The bottom line is, it works.

Every day, sun, rain, or snow.

Keep in mind the post that started this all is this one, which specifically mentions aiming lights at drivers faces.

Yup that's what I do with my PB Superflash till I have the coin for the Dinotte. If I strike it rich I'm getting a couple rear Dinottes and aiming it back and mid-head level (meaning SUV/Car level) so it hits both of them square in the face to back off...

I'm sure the DiNotte is a very effective light, and I might even pick one up now that the mounting issue has been dealt with, but it's something that must be used responsibly. It sounds to me like you have a suburban or countryside commute where drivers have the time and space to avoid being blinded. That wouldn't hold true in city traffic.

I have mounted my bike using dinotte tail light using the O ring that came with the light, it seems to hold the light fine...

Anybody have a link to something like this available in the US?

bradl 08-19-07 09:47 PM

I'm using this: Viewpoint OS Spacebar from Performance.

Yes it holds it fine. The problem I have with this mounting (and maybe the others here) is that there is no place I can mount it with the O ring on my seatpost where I don't end up rubbing it with my leg as I ride.

Is this what Dinotte is shipping out with thier taillight now?

varunku 08-20-07 09:27 AM

They are supplying only the O ring, they don't supply this mount

Scorer75 08-20-07 10:17 AM

But this one can be mounted to the seatpost.

http://www.sjscycles.co.uk/images/pr...041thorn_l.jpg

This one cannot.

Where do I find the first one in the US?

Where can I buy that mount? Preferrably in the USA or Canada.

FFS, did you try contacting DiNotte?

bradl 08-20-07 02:38 PM

This one cannot.
Eh? It's mounted to mine. You can trivially rotate the band 90-degrees when installing.

I don't think their shipping it yet, for me there is still a bit of an issue with the battery pack using this mount, unless you have a seat bag. The power cord running down is still untidy,
thats why I put my battery pack under the seat with the light secured to it. Before anybody suggests it I don't have any room on the seat stay junction above the rear brake given the compact frame

Gojohnnygo. 08-21-07 12:10 PM

Nashbar has pic of that same mount but they don't say a word about the mount being included.

Just got off instachat with nashbar they said "tech: it only comes with the O-Ring mounts "

The second one should be able to be mounted to the seat post, I think. You'd just need to loosen, detach, and rotate the end piece where the bar strap is. I'm pretty sure that's the way it works. Granted, the first one looks a lot nicer, but the second should work, too. (I can't promise the second one will work the way you want it to, but I think it will...)

They sell the second one at Performance Bicycle. I saw them there today when I stopped by for the tail end of their Grand Opening in Houston (Westheimer store). On the package it stated "fully adjustable horizontal and vertical." They're something like $10 on sale right now or about $15 regular price.

Thank you. I'll pick one up and try to post the results in here.

I own the Minorua Spacebar which is very similar to this one only that I have an adjustable up-down control. The metal strap will fit the handle bars and seatpost just fine. There is a screw inside the unit that you loosen out and then you can change the mounting position from horizontal to vertical. I have used this on my stem before and my stem measurement is (let me get my digi-caliper.....) 41.23mm/1.6230inches and that pretty much is the widest you can take it to on the mount. I had to try mounting this a few times because of the large stem and because I had to hold the screw and nut in place. When screwing the screw back in you're going in blind! You have feel with the screw to get into the hole of the long inside shaft. You'll understand what I mean when you have the unit. For bar mounting you should not have any grief or for anything under my stem size.

kleng 08-23-07 02:15 PM

With the Minoura space bar do your thighs or legs hit the horizontal bar when you've got it mounted on the seat post ? Any photos ?

varuscelli 08-23-07 02:31 PM

Hey, guys...

Here's a page worth checking out for options.

http://www.peterwhitecycles.com/light-mounts.asp

I really like the Nitto Lamp Holder, but there's lots to see on this page. (The Minoura Space Grip and others.) That Nitto Lamp Holder looks like quality stuff. There must be a dozen different options shown with lots of "on the bike" examples.

Too cool.
