Today I purchased a Schwinn 13 function wireless cyclocomputer. I mounted the bracket, put the magnet screw on the spoke on the front wheel, and mounted the transmitter on the front fork. I made sure that the magnet and the transmitter were lined up. Thing is, I can't get the computer to pick anything up. The speedometer isn't even responding. What is wrong with it?

Ok, so I tried moving both the magnet and the transmitter to the back wheel and it still won't work.

Check the gap distance between the transmitter and the magnet. Even though they line up, they may be too far apart at point of alignment. Good luck.

Ok so I moved a little closer, but now it is just displaying really random things like 80+ mph when the bike isn't moving. I'm starting to think that it is the battery and I'm going to go get a new one.

I once mounted the wireless transmitter on the front fork upside down! You didn't do that, did you?

Try unclipping the display unit from your handlebar and move it around near the transmitter while the wheel is spinning to see if you can pick up anything. Photos of your setup may help diagnose the problem, too. Good luck!

Well, I changed the battery and that isn't the issue. It is still showing random numbers and it keeps saying I'm going 80 mph and the bike isn't moving. The magnet and transmitter are still on the back of the bike.

Just keep working the placement of the sensor. I have the 12 function Schwinn and I had the same problems as you did. Try sliding the magnet closer or changing the angle by twisting it round the spoke. I have it working, but I don't really understand what I did to get to --besides trial and error.

Probably just need it closer still. My Cateye specified 1-2 mm, which I had a helluva time finagling, but I got it to work with rubber spacers.

I had a shwin (althought it was wired) and found the spacing between magnet and sensor had to be really tight, to the point of rubbing. I shimmed the sensor towards the wheel using scrap wood and electrical tape (oh yeah it looked pro).

That 80+ mph when the bike wasn't moving... was the magnet lined up with the sensor at the time? If so that's probably the sensors detecting/not detecting the magnet intermittently and reporting impossible speeds.
