odd cycle computer problem

Hi guys,

i just bought a cycle computer and it will record the speed if it is low (< 5mph) but over that the display reads 0.0 and the computer doesn't realise the wheel is turning - it's auto off kicks in after about 5 mins of riding!!

Does anyone know why this happens?

What things should I adjust? - I have made sure the magnet is pretty much touching the transmitter (it is wireless)

Could it be faulty?

Thanks

Daven
