WOW that sucks, I almost bought that light.....

just did a search on CPF, no history of a fake JetBeams, I'm sure those guys would be on top of it + it would have came up in my HW searches, I read alot of reviews of alot of lights. It came down to this and the Dereelight CL1H. The Jetbeam has regulated voltages and the CL1H has it only with CR123's and direct driven with 18650's. I really didn't want to carry spare 18650's and spare RCR123's.

Actually, with the 3SD or 1S pills, the CL1H should give you fantastic regulation on 18650, just like the DBS. That's one of Dereelights's specialties:

http://i127.photobucket.com/albums/p...eDBSv2High.jpg

The flip side, of course, is that sudden "I'M DONE, CYA" at the end ;)

Well anyway, if you get the urge to pick up the CL1H at some point in the near future, you can now get them with the R2 WC emitter, from the new U.S. Dereelight distributor guy in CPFMarketplace > Dealers forum. I've considered getting a CL1H, but I think I'd rather have another DBS for the massive throw, if I'm going to bother.

jsigone 10-15-08 11:23 PM

nice find!! http://www.light-reviews.com/dereeli...eview_2sd.html and other reviews showed otherwise. I saw on one thread a guy posted a regulated chart like the one you linked, but didn't want to chance getting that rev or not. And yah if I'd probably take the DBS if this were to stay on the bars.

I'm not too worried of the regulation drop off, my MTE P7 is direct driven so I won't be stuck in the dark LOL.

I think i'll abilty to customize the modes of the JetBeam to fine tune it to where I ride. I'm sure the Cl1H would have fit the bill as well. One hand is drop in upgrade pills, the other hand is 3 fully customized modes....tough pick ya know:p

man this is depressing http://www.jetbeam.com.cn/links/

I just emailed DX to try and refund the price of the Jetbeams I order earlier....I'll order though Bug out if it clears.......sighhhhhhh

Which 5-mode did you get and how is the battery life?

PAFirefighter11 10-16-08 08:27 AM

My order is in packaging now :-D

jsigone 10-16-08 10:39 AM

Got an email from dx this morning, she will refund the two jetbeam lights I ordered, quick reaponce was nice. I still have a bunch of bats and chargers coming from them. So all isn't bad.

squirtdad 10-16-08 01:34 PM

it seems that there are subtle diffs in specs etc.

Is ths the latest and greastest best for a 5 mode http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.16092

it is the 2800 mAh and has metal reflector

thanks.

GTALuigi 10-16-08 09:06 PM

my stuff arrived as per their delivery calendar

AEO 10-16-08 11:14 PM

got my 2-mode MTE P7 in the mail earlier today.

low mode is basically the same as a dinotte 200L on high
high mode is really fantastic, lights up enough ahead of you to go at a decent speed, but I'd consider it blinding for anybody on coming.

if you commute isn't too long, you can get a pair of P7, set one to low and point it short with the other one on high and pointed far. It'll light the road up like a Christmas tree, and still be cheaper than the dinotte 200L

Sorry, I am a noob and have a question.
Can someone explain this (from DX's 5- mode description:

- 30~60 estimated total runtime per charge (manufacturer rated)

30- 60 ..what?

Minutes.

Thanks for the clarification. 30-60 minutes doesn't seem like a long time at all - I was hoping it was something else.

jumpster 10-17-08 09:40 AM

I am getting buried in all the different models' details. Which one of these P7's is best as a main headlight and will go couple or hours at that level before recharging the batteries (using AA rechargeables)?

P7's do not use AA batteries, they use Lithium 18650 batteries.. The current runtimes are from 60-90 minutes maximum.. If you need a light to run a couple of hours and use AA batteries, you need to look at the Q5 Cree Flashlights.. The Fenix L2d is one of the more popular models..

None of them. They all seem to use 18650 batteries and get about an hour of runtime on high.

Check out the Fenix LD2 or the thread link below for more practical ideas if you need longer runtime or wish to use AA batteries.

My mistake - I meant the rechargeables... I have some ENELOOP batteries

Eneloops are AA rechargeables.

I get about 70-75 mins of a fully charged 18650. IF you want longer run time, the you won't get as much light or you'll have to make some sort of battery pack to use with the P7. Which I'm not sure if anyone has done yet....just carry a spare or two bats and you'll have enough for a 3+ hr ride. A 18650 battery is like 40 grams

uke 10-17-08 11:29 AM

Keep in mind the P7 runs longer on medium while being brighter than a Fenix on high, and still costing less. If you absolutely need AA batteries, you might consider the Fenix, but don't get it over the P7 because you think it has better battery life, because it doesn't. It gives you less output for less time for more money.

I've been hunting around for a 18650 battery holder, so I can wire up a 3x 18650 in parallel for 3+ hour runtime on high. So far, there's no such thing as 18650 battery holder.

AEO 10-17-08 11:34 AM

some fat heat shrink perhaps?

that's only if you leave it at the highest setting which is 900 lumens
it last 1 hour

in medium setting it last 3.5+ hours

in low even waaaaay longer.

Low setting is about 200 lumen

Med setting is approx 600

mrbubbles 10-17-08 02:02 PM

You people do realize you can wire any 3.6 volts battery to power P7 right?

That's 3 AA 2500mah battery or 6 AA with 2 sets of 3 wired in parallel for 3.6V 5A. FYI, 18650 = 3 AA 2500mAh.

You could even do 3 D size 4000mAH rechargeables. You don't absolutely have to use 18650, unless you want the compactness.

If I were to do it, I'd use electrical tape to wrap the bats or fat heat shrink then put them in a digi camera case to mount to the stem.

AEO 10-17-08 02:27 PM

modify an 8 pack battery holder for a double bank of 3x Ni-MH batteries.

Not a holder, but probably better idea:

I'm thinking of getting some 3xAA holders and using my eneloop cells in parallel batteries, say 2x or 3x (3xAA) for 4-6 A-hrs / 2-3 hrs operation on a p7 drawing 2A.

http://www.batteryspace.com/index.as...S&Category=859

I have several AA devices, and prefer to not add more cell/charger clutter to my bench (and $$).

jsigone 10-17-08 04:38 PM

their 10000mAh pack is 63 bucks, that is just 4 18650's together, so only $20 for the bats + some metal and wire to solder them together. You'll still need a simular charger if you wanted to go that route.

I'd use this connector if I made one.

How exactly does one use an external battery pack to power a flashlight? Solder wires to the flashlight?
