705 in the rain??

My edge 705 is to be delivered today and I am wanting to use it on my road bike and commuter. Using it on the commuter mostly just to keep a running total of how many miles I have put on the bike, so does the 705 hold up well in the rain? I have heard good things about the edge 500 in the rain but haven't seen much on the 705. Should I have nothing to worry about or would it be better just to get a cheap computer to put on the commuter bike?

No worries. It's waterproof.

You'll be fine in the rain. I just wouldn't submerge it.

It is certified to IPX7 water resistant standards.

"Most newer GarminŽ GPS units are waterproof in accordance with IEC 60529 IPX7. IEC 60529 is a European system of test specification standards for classifying the degrees of protection provided by the enclosures of electrical equipment. An IPX7 designation means the GPS case can withstand accidental immersion in one meter of water for up to 30 minutes. An IPX8 designation is for continuous underwater use. "

The only problem you may have is the altimeter can go whacky if the air pressure ports get blocked with water droplets. No damage will occure it just cant properly judge changes in air pressure.

+1

I did a century in the pouring rain earlier this year, and my 705 performed (and continues to perform) flawlessly .

Garmin says it is built to waterproof standards. I've used mine in several thunderstorms and a couple of drenching rains, splashes from puddles and passing cars and sprayed it with a hose. It still works just fine so I guess Garmin isn't fibbing.
