Just when I thought that I was really happy with my Edge 500, this comes along to tempt me. At first glance it looks pretty good.

Looks tempting to me as well. Touchscreen seems like the most natural way to control a device like this (especially compared to the infuriating joystick/button control on my 705), provided they implement it well.

I was disappointed to see that the reviewers were still having problems with the altitude/grade readout. I've had that same problem intermittently going back several years on both my Edge 705 and Edge 305 before that.

JUST purchased my Edge 705. Still not upset since I can't imagine operating the 800 with winter gloves. Or I wonder how it works when your hands are full of sweat. Or can all you see is finger prints in the sun???

Still happy about the 705.

Agreed.
The current rev of 705 firmware is the worst yet at losing the grade display.
Some earlier versions lost it occasionally.
With the current rev, I can count on it going away.

That's interesting. Where did you see that?

The Garmin Edge 800 site (which is intermittently working for me today) has it listed as an accessory: https://buy.garmin.com/shop/shop.do?...3#accessoryTab - expand the battery section (but no apparent details yet)

There's a picture of the extended battery here: https://gbr.garmin.com/edge800/edge800.html - click on Tour on the bottom (middle button), then Endurance at the top right.
