Garmin Edge 500

Just purchased a Garmin Edge 500. I had been using my Forerunner 201 but thought I'd be better off with a bike specific model that gives cadence, MPH, etc.

I know it will take a little bit before I remember which buttons to press, etc, but just wondering if anybody had any tips or advice on this unit that would be nice to know? Always nice to get some info from people who have experience with the product.

I'm mainly using it for weight loss training at this point until I can get back into good enough condition to start racing. Bad winter. Back blew out BIG TIME and put back on a lot of weight, so basically starting over again....at 54 years of age!

Thanks in advance for any advice and/or help.

Bikes: This list got too long: several ‘bents, an urban utility e-bike, and a dahon D7 that my daughter has absconded with.

I had something similar happen. I got injured and that ended most activities for several years. I was at 227lb, which for 5'6" is just too much. I am just gtting mback ito doing some of the things I had done before.

Depending on your eyes you can probably display all of the info on one screen and not have to push to many buttons. With fewer items displayed at a time, the numbers are bigger.

Remember to press start when you start. I forget every once in a while. It has an option to beep to remind you, but the beep is hard to hear.

Upgrade to the latest firmware, which you can get on the Garmin site. It's much more stable with it.

A great place for info is the Garmin forums site. There is a group specific to the 500. Here is the link:
