Garmin 305 Forerunner

Can anyone tell me how the distance works on the Garmin. I have set up my window for 3 different windows and one is Distance. However it shows FT for feet. I want the distance to read miles.

Both my old Forerunner 201 and my Edge 705 read in feet until I've gone more than a few tenths of a mile, then they switch to miles. Seems to me the Forerunner 305 would work the same way.
