Mount ONE taillight on which seatstay?
If you are going to mount just 1 taillight on one of your seatstays, would you mount it on the left or the right one? It seems to me it should be the left one, because usually cars are not on your right. Opinions?
On another note, a seatstay-mounted light doesn't seem to be very useful unless your seatstay is high up. I saw some people's light on their seatstays are in very low position and wonder if the drivers see them most of the time or not.

I'd mount it on the left for the reason you stated, but I personally use a seatstay mounted light placed immediately below the saddle. If I don't have anything on the rear rack that seems to work fairly well. If the rack is loaded and the seatstay light isn't obvious then I have a short piece of PVC pipe with two inexpensive lights mounted on it that I Velcro to the end of the rack.

I have one bike without a rack, and I have the light mounted on the left seatstay, just below the brake. The other bikes have the lights mounted elsewhere.

I still think my "rubber hose" idea is great. All you do ic cut notches in a 4 inch piece of hose and wedge it into the seat rails. Then "firm up" the the hose with tape around the notched areas.
Perfect placement, you can turn it on and off while riding.

I have it on my left seat stay. That said, i just bought another and now have it on both seat stays. I also have a blinkie on the rear rack. So there is a triangle of blinkies. Hard to miss.

I would have it on drive train side in case the bike needs to be laid down for some reason.

Bike ≠ Car ≠ Ped.
On my road bike, it's on the left side because the seat stay is so low that the wheel would block it if it were on the other side.
If I were in the UK or Japan, I'd put it on the right side.
